Kissing teens sculpture shocks parents

A life-sized statue of a teenage couple snogging on a park bench has been given the kiss-off by straight laced mums in China.

The realistic sculpture - showing two youngsters in their school uniform - has shocked passers-by at the Bihu Ecological Park, in Zhangzhou, Fujian province.

Public displays of affection are still considered outrageous in many parts of China.

One mother complained: "I had my little girl with me and she saw the statue.

"It looks so lifelike she asked me what the two of them were doing. I didn't know how to answer her so I got her away from there as quickly as possible."

Artist Liu Qing - who created the work - said: "It's just a kiss and it's a common phenomenon among teenagers now I hope parents and schools can deal with it properly."

But another critic told local media: "I think it will encourage students to kiss each other boldly in public and should be taken down."
