An American man who has been arrested more than 1,500 times has spent yet another Thanksgiving behind bars.

Henry Earl, 64, is locked up in the Fayette County Detention Center following his arrest outside a fast food restaurant last month for public intoxication.

Earl has been in jail for Thanksgiving three times over the past five years and recently celebrated his 64th birthday locked up.

Earl, who occasionally uses the alias 'James Brown', has spent a total of nearly 6,000 days in custody over the course of his life, almost entirely on charges of public intoxication and disorderly conduct.

He was first jailed in Fayette County in July 1970, when he was 20, for carrying a concealed weapon.

From then on, Earl's arrest rate increased rapidly; he was jailed 230 times during the 1980s.

Over the past year, Kentucky judges have been less lenient on Earl, who has begun spending two- to three-month periods in custody per conviction.

Sounds to me like he wants a free roof over his head and free food. :s

Yeah sounds like it. How can you be arrested that many times without getting harsher punishments and years behind bars eventually?

I don't know why they aren't harsher on him. My thoughts are that he's homeless and addicted to alcohol. When he's really down and out he does these 'petty' crimes so he then has a place to go and eat for free.

It depends on the "crimes" really...

Petty public intoxication over and over shouldn't give the person harsher punishments, gezz people, you're all about locking anyone and everyone up for life?

If it happens over 1500 times then yes. :P

Agreed. I say let him get the free food once in a while.

Please show me where I said that. Thanks in advance.

I read the title and i was like: :scared2:

I wonder why he's still doing criminality.. Poor man though

This sort of thing really isn't that uncommon these days, and it's a pretty sad reality. There are people who will literally steal one dollar from a bank just to get in jail so they will have a roof over their heads.

Yeah, people like him should be in prison... but it's costing money to keep him up in jail (like you mentionned: free food, free bed and people need to pay for his "roof", and etc)...so what to do with him...or people like him? Jail or no jail?

In prison for what? Since when does being homeless and a chronic alcoholic warrant prison time?

Yeah, as I asked: should he be in jail or not...? Since he did nothing but cause people
to pay for his "free" stuff (tax payers...) Or maybe there's something else that could be done with people like him...?

It certainly looks like he doesn't mind being there. Maybe he's even made some friends :P

What's so bad about public intoxication? (So long as you aren't harassing people or some such.)

Sure doesn't mind having free stuff, eh?

It's the charges of public intoxication and disorderly conduct that gets him in trouble.

I think he should be let free... because he's supposed to be "free" to do whatever he wants eh? And it's just
costing the states more money anyways.

You don't seem like you can make up your mind:
Yeah, people like him should be in prison

No... that was a rhetorical question as to whether he should be "let free" or "in jail" for it...?

And I'm just saying: since his "basic" freedoms/rights are being denied or violated by the states eh? So why don't we let him free in the wild, so he doesn't cost us more money?

Yes, but that's two charges right?

And, worth arresting for...? No in my book.

Apparently the State of Georgia doesn't agree with you:

Public Drunkenness is a more common occurrence than most people think. Many times it happens when a person does the "right thing" and decided not to drive their vehicle. Even if you have the foresight to avoid getting behind the wheel after a night out drinking, you can still face charges of Public Drunkenness in the state of Georgia. Public Intoxication is generally characterized by loud or disruptive behavior or behavior that interferes with other people's enjoyment of public spaces. This can include yelling, using loud, profane language, tearing down or destroying other people's property, and running in the streets.

A person who shall be and appear in an intoxicated condition in any public place or within the curtilage of any private residence not his own other than by invitation of the owner or lawful occupant, which condition is made manifest by boisterousness, by indecent condition or act, or by vulgar, profane, loud, or unbecoming language, is guilty of a misdemeanor.
