As a way to increase the activity on my forum, I periodically send out an email via the mass mail system to all my members. I also have an automatic reminder set up to send emails to members who haven't been online in a week or two.

Does anyone else do this as well?

I can't stand the inactivity emails, That makes me go to a forum and wipe off all my details, turn off the email option and never go back.

Members of my forum have complained in the past of to many mass emails, So now I keep it to a minimum, So if something major has changed on the board then I will send out a mass email. If not then I don't bother.

I send bulk mail to all members, about important things such as major updates and competitions. Sending bulk mail just to chance your luck on getting inactive members back is a bit silly, in my opinion. I've done it before, and not a single member that hasn't been online for six months or more had came back.

HI Luke. IMO, I think it would be a hassle to receive constant e-mails. However, I never use my main email addresses to sign up for boards. And I rarely, if ever, go back to the email addresses I used to join a board. Problem solved.

However, I commend you on your wish to create an active forum, especially with all the competition out there.

Well the periodic emails are newsletters of sorts, they list some interesting threads we've got.

And I have seen members come back due to that inactivity email, they claim they forgot about the forum and meant to be active.

Once a month for a newsletter isn't too often IMO.
