These are my top 5 most overrated rock bands.
1. Guns N' Roses
They're not bad or untalented and actually have some nice songs but still, they are VERY overrated.
2. Bon Jovi
Just seems so forced and fake. He's not in it for the music plus he's a bad song-writer.
3. AC/DC
Nothing to say here. They have nothing special. They're boring and off-putting.
4. Metalica
Don't get me wrong. They're pretty good. But they just don't deserve being called the 'Gods of Rock'.
5. Red hot chili peppers
A mediocre band that's getting too much attention. And their songs sound almost the same.

Same could be said about you listing any of the others.

It is a matter of opinion. The Beatles did "break through" but then they Broke Up before they could ride the train as far as it could go.

If you want to start calling each other names..... hang on, let me dust off my working list of terms for self important idiots who post a subjective topic and then flame anybody who has a different idea.

What you're saying is riduculous. I'm not even defending The Beatles. They’re not my favorite band or anything. But they’re...what’s the word I’m looking for here? Oh right. THEY’RE THE FUCKING BEATLES, one of the bands on which just about everything you listen to was probably built. Being a music fan who shits on The Beatles is like sitting in your warm house and being like, “Yeah, wood is way overrated, dude. When you think about it, wood’s not really that great.” I bet if we sat you down in a room and started playing “All You Need Is Love” or “A Day in the Life” you’d probably start crying and piss your pants from pretending not to have all the emotions in the world. If we played “Here Comes the Sun” when you’re having a bad day, you’d probably shit yourself as a result of the overwhelming mixture of joyful optimism and awe.

In case you're saying The Beatles are overrated because you haven't even listened to their work here's some good songs they made:
- A day in the life
- While my guitar gently weeps
- Let it Be
- All you need is love
- In my life
- Here comes the sun
- Lucy In the sky with Diamonds

If you're still not satesfied here are some things that can keep you busy:
- Inform small children there’s no Santa Claus.
- Visit the Holocaust Museum and tell strangers that Hitler had some pretty good ideas.
- Tell a woman that childbirth isn’t really a big deal.

I'll ignore the personal attack by a lame witted troll and point out that the Beatles built on a foundation laid by those of the caliber of Fats Domino, Little Richard, and Elvis.

The discussion was presented as listing bands that may be perhaps "overrated".

I stand by my statement that it is within the scope of possibility that the Beatles, as a group, perhaps are not all that they have been made out to be since they disbanded in 1970 after having been active for ten years.

Maybe the flamewad that started it should have said "the Beatles and NOT to be touched" in his original post.

How can you say the most influential band of all rock era is 'overrated'?
Being influenced by an artist and emulating them in some way is expected. You can trace back Britney Spears to Motzart if you try. But here's the thing: Nearly all of the great modern musicians name The Beatles as their single biggest influence. Many who knew the Beatles (including Eric Clapton and Mick Jagger) have called their work underrated, as those not educated in music tend to overlook the great talent they held. So the Beatles may have taken a lot of inspiration from Buddy Holly, but everybody since has proudly taken inspiration from the Beatles.

number 1 has to be U2............then Oasis............then Bruce Springstein......Kiss

Sure, they're overrated too. Not that much in my opinion though. But appreciate the input.

Calling someone a "faggot" just because they think The Beatles are overrated is a little uncalled for.

I know and I'm sorry. It was a stupid thing to say, please focus on the points I made later on.

The points you made later on were pretty good, if only you replied like that to begin with. :P

Anyway, I think Green Day is an overrated band. There's a place for their catchy pop-punk tunes, and that place is a college dorm room in 1994.

I guess they are a bit overrated. But their sound is what 90s are like. I personally find it rather boring compared to classic rock.

I disagree with your list. But I definitely think KISS was over rated. I like some of their songs, but I think they are a little over rated. As for Guns n Roses, I literally do not have ONE SONG from them that I dislike. Which makes them the best rock band out there in my opinion. I enjoy Bon Jovi, but their songs do have meaning. They are a LITTLE overrated, but Bon Jovi was a pretty good songwriter. Red Hot Chilli Peppers songs don't really sound the same, they are just 90s. :) AC/DC Was a little overrated, but I disagree that they are boring. They have a lot of songs I could just dance and sing to! Metallica wasn't really overrated. But they aren't the Gods Of Rock because no one is. But just my opinion on everything that I agree and disagree with. :)

I'm not sure you understand the meaning of the word 'overrated'. Overrated is anything (a band) that receives WAY too much praise and/or publicity that doesn't deserve. And I can't stand seeing these low-quality rock n' roll wannabes compared to the greatest rock bands of all time. Because they're not as good, not as talented, not as gifted. Yet, they receive more praise and publicity and that's exactly what makes them overrated.

Bon Jovi is a businessman first and a musician second in that order. He is very corporate and his music sounds corporate. The music sounds very mediocre. It's very blah and non-adventurous. It's very safe music. But he doesn't care, he's all about the money and he's rolling in the money. He's one of the richest musicians out there today. His band members even said in a matter of fact way that Jon Bon Jovi runs the band and they are just his employees. Yeah, Jon Bon Jovi is a corporation posing as a musician.

Axl Rose is possibly the quintessential overrated hair metal frontman, the paramount of flashy, overbearing crankiness that some critics take as a form of ambition. How did this band become known as one of the greatest influences in rock today? Slash is a great guitarist, but a solo does not make a song. A worthy guitar band, but as monumental artists, they leave much to be desired.

AC/DC...Such a generic, uncreative, grossly overrated band. If you listen to one of their songs, you've basically heard them all. They did not influence rock in any way. They can only be described by simplicity, lack of talent and creativity.

I'm sorry, but AC/DC are the greatest rock band of all time. Perhaps only Queen come close to them. They have a formula, it works, why fix what isn't broke? Guns N' Roses are also a brilliant band. Even with Chinese Democracy to their name, it wasn't THAT bad.

Thanks for the laugh but please have some basic knowledge on the topic before inputting your opinion next time.

Ironic really, because judging from all your comments it is in fact you, who does not have any basic knowledge on the topic. And seriously, calling someone a faggot for disagreeing with you. Perhaps you need to get some basic knowledge on how forums work, or specifically discussion forums.

I know of a well respected music critic who sees The Beatles as nothing more than a group of pretty boys who made teenage girls wet thus leading to their "success". So it would not be unfound for someone else to feel they are overrated. Personally I am indifferent toward The Beatles. But that is getting from my point of the fact AC/DC and Guns kick ass.

Excluding the obvious roots of heavy metal in the form of Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, AC/DC have been considered a major influence of the genre and of course just rock in general. To back up a claim of how influential AC/DC are, a band called Airbourne are almost a carbon copy of them and here there lead singer explains his love for them.

Guns N' Roses have also been very influential to the same respective genres. Even if Axl is the biggest twat in the music industry.

But what the fuck do I know? I have no basic knowledge of this topic at all. Clearly.

Oh, I'm sorry, I actually thought we were talking about music, not about how forums work. I guess it makes sense since you're completely clueless on the first subject you're trying to make a point out of the latter.

And your 'well-respected' cousin who failed as a music critic and decided to dedicate his life to spreading misinformation and trolling based on his bad taste in music, is totally irrelevant. Or was that you?

I didn't even bother to register to read that article but remember when I was talking about misinformation? Well, guess what, wikipedia seems to disagree with you about this band being a 'carbon copy' of AC/DC. And I guess because they 'influenced' one band now they are the best rock band ever. And the Beatles, the most influencial band in the history of music that has clearly influenced artists like Nirvana, Pink Floyd, Bruce Sprignsteen, Elton John, Jimi Hendrix, The Eagles & Queen...nah, they're so overrated.

You are actually stupid aren't you?

1. Cousin? Where the fuck did that come from? But I'll give you the critic's name. Dom Lawson. He writes for Metal Hammer and The Guardian.
2. Uhm, this is a forum. You clearly don't know how they work otherwise you wouldn't be going around calling people faggots when they don't agree with you. Forums are places for discussion, not stating your opinion as law and then attacking anyone who doesn't agree.
3. I said I am indifferent to The Beatles. Didn't say they're overrated did I?
4. You like talking about misinformation. What is Wikipedia commonly known for? Oh yeah. giving false information. While yes, it is mostly correct, it definitely has some inaccuracies.

So what we've discovered from this is, you are unable to read, unable to take part in a discussion without using a pejorative term towards a member who has a different opinion, you don't actually know anything about said topic because you fail to recognise how much influence AC/DC actually have had and finally, you like making things up.
