Who should be the next president of the United States?

Should Obama get a second term?

Debate!

I think Obama has done a decent job. He did get Bin Laden after all. That alone might have ensured his 2nd term.

Why would ANYBODY want the damned job?

My opinion, his inner battles have taken a toll and is surfacing. (I was just reading recently about taqiyya and kitman.)

I just don't see running for President as a sign of glutton.. it really is a sacrifice. I don't think Obama lacks integrity, I can't defend everything his administration does, but I still believe he has good character and is a respectable person. Having read his books, the values he espouses there seem to fit neatly in line with my views.

Whether you like it or not, whether he deserves it or not, he will be getting a second term unless something very bad happens between now and 2012. And I'll be voting for him.

You mean something very bad like this:

Exactly!

And the Republican has to pitch something that will lead voters to believe she/he can have a more positive impact than the incumbent.

Telling a bigger lie would be easy... making it believable might be a bit tricky.

Anyhow... the next president of the US should be someone who's qualified for the job AND still qualified afterwards.

Very good point. So, how does one become qualified for that job as chief executive of what is arguably still the largest economy on the planet, the commander in chief of the most powerful military, the primary diplomat for the only remaining true superpower, the senior law enforcement officer for 350 million people, the top overseer of the World Wide Web, and the lead topic of most daily news broadcasts?

And once you do get the job.... you get blamed for stuff like this, even though your direct control over it is limited to the repercussions of things like taxes and regulations.

This is from MSNBC... ... not those haters at Fox.

NEW YORK — Fears that the global economic recovery has stalled pushed the Dow Jones industrial average below 12,000 for the first time since March and drove the stock market lower for the sixth straight week.

Friday's drop extended the longest weekly losing streak for stocks since the fall of 2002.

Vote for George Lopez! He might be Spanish, but I think he'd do a decent job. Of course I'm being half way unserious.

Easy, by splitting it.

Possibly by switching to parliamentary democracy, or just by creating some new jobs.

No one should have that much power and still be an elected official. Some dictator holding all those positions I can understand, not some person who gets elected in what is very much a popularity vote.

I'm going with EE on this one.

You become qualified by being ethical, moral, compassionate, intelligent and posses enough integrity to pick the right people to fill the cabinet, other executive offices, and your board of advisers.

Sounds wonderful.

So.

Of the current crop of bozos, who would that be?

And, for the sake of argument, we'll disqualify the incumbent from the list, if for no other reason than he's already got the job and it appears to still be his to lose.

Oh, yeah...

It's the economy stupid.

-Clinton campaign slogan, 1992

And yet newly elected Republicans are marching into office under an oath that they will never in any situation raise taxes.

I despise the far right wing.
