When some of the most powerful people in the world who all hold opposing ideologies come together for a conference there is bound to be some offensive gestures made.

However no one could have predicted that president Obama would anger a nation of more than a billion people by simply chewing gum.
The President was filmed chomping away as he sauntered into the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation in Beijing.

Chinese citizens immediately took to Twitter (where else?) to air their grievances, with commentators calling him an ‘idler’ and even labelling him a ‘rapper’.

Yin Hong, a professor of journalism at Beijing’s Tsinghua University, wrote on his blog: ‘We made this meeting so luxurious, with singing and dancing, but see Obama, stepping out of his car chewing gum like an idler.’

The famed leader also bucked tradition by arriving at the ceremony in an American made limousine, rather than a standard Chinese vehicle used by the other guests – however this didn’t seem to rile people as much as the chewing gum.

Do you find this disrespectful?

He has managed to piss off most people everywhere. But have to say of all the Many, many, many things to be pissed or offended at with him this is stupid.

It doesn't surprise me any....He's been doing pretty well at getting people angry....
I think, if you should ask me, that this man is considered "Stupidity in action." Every thing he does, makes people angry.....

In my oppinion. He should act professional. Chewing gum at such a meeting doesn't give a professional look.

Is there not a country that dumbass hasn't yet offended? Well, other than Hawaii and Alaska...oh, wait.

Obama seems like he doesn't really care... lol
He looks more goofy in them dress clothes.

He's just mailing it by now, Zeek...and the goofy clothes? Every year, whenever the Asia-Pacific leaders (including the U.S. president) get together, there - for whatever reason - is always a local customary dress theme...apparently, this year, Pres. Nobama thought it was Star Trek night at the local cinema...

I just want to pick up on this.

Known to be a former smoker, Obama is often seen chewing nicorette (a stop smoking gum), however you would think he would be able to be keep his craving in check while hanging out with Vladimir Putin and Chinese president Xi Jinping.

Now, as a non-smoker myself I'm not sure, but isn't smoking supposedly tied to being relaxing, and relieving stress? If that is the case, surely it'd be more understandable for him to be chewing at that time, considering the fact he's meeting with some of the biggest leaders the world of today knows.

At this point, I think people are just looking for any tiny reason to bitch about Obama. It doesn't even need to be significant, as shown here. He's getting blasted because holy fucking shit, he's human.

But of course, chewing gum is much worse than Xi Jinping turning a blind eye to his officials funding the illegal ivory trade in Tanzania. Right?
