(The Guardian) Newton-John to be honoured in annual walk
Late singer and Australian icon Olivia Newton-John, who died earlier this month, will be remembered during her annual Walk For Wellness, AAP reports.
Her grieving husband, John Easterling, said the event, which raises money for cancer research, would be held at one of her favourite spots – Alexandra Gardens in Victoria – on October 9. He said: The wellness walk and wellness programs meant so much to Olivia. At [her] deepest essence, she was a healer using her mediums of song, of words, of touch. She continues to inspire each of us to be our best, recognise our gifts, and contribute to those less fortunate.
Newton-John, best known for playing Sandy in the 1978 hit film Grease opposite John Travolta, died on 8 August at the age of 73.
She battled breast cancer three times after first being diagnosed in 1992, leading her to create the Olivia Newton-John Foundation to fund cancer research. She also founded the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre in Melbourne, which supports people living with the disease.
