Only reply to chit-chat threads

I like to spread my activities over as many different categories as I feel I can contribute to, it helps you mesh with the other members of a community on different levels and about different subjects. Nothing wrong with just chit chat, though, if that's what interests someone. So long as they're happy and participating, go for it!

I find the Chit Chat not so Chit Chat when people are spamming "good morning, good afternoon, and good night" only in that thread. That doesn't look like chit chat to me.

I don't think thats spam. I like saying good morning or good night to my peeps!

Agreed, it's just a pleasant exchange and you never know who really needs that pleasantry in a day.

Exactly, some people on forums have nobody in their IRL lives and a 'good morning' on a forum could mean the world to them, you never know.

Completely agreed, and it just helps you engage with a community. Everyone can say a quick good morning/afternoon/evening/night, and that could be someone's way of easing into the community.

Kind of agree. I think it's fine unless it's the only thing/mostly what people post.

because A it's an easy way to get your post count up, and B- if you have nothing to say, well hi, or how are you, works.

I don't often take part in chat threads- I think for me it's because I like expressing myself, and regular chat threads don't really give me that

Seen it all the time and never questioned it. I think it's just an easy way for that member to engage with others. I used to only post in a chat thread on one forum years ago as a teenager. Also used to only talk to someone I met via the old vBulletin visitor messages system instead of PMs. lol

I guess some people consider the thread somewhat of a chatroom since it is continuously posted by various members. Some people like centralizing their posts to a particular forum or thread for the sake of easily keeping up with the discussions at hand, I suppose.

I like them and dont like them at the same time. I see the appeal if it’s a smaller community or a new one. But if its a big community i would rather interact with new threads. to each their own.
