What's the most overrated food you've ever eaten and why?

Lobster. I don't get it. It's good, but I don't see the value.

id agree with that.....i find it rather tasteless.....prefer crab to be honest

lobster is my favorite, though i have to admit that the best flavor of any of that group is the stone crab. the crab innards aren't as tasty as the lobster and crabs don't have tails.

crawdads are yummy and they're much cheaper than lobster or crab. where's everybody at on octopus and squid?

who's had abalone? i think that's overrated. it's got the consistency of a fireman's boot and almost no flavor other than that 'i came out of the ocean and am starting to rot' flavor all sea food has.

most of the cost of lobster to people is transportation. they're pretty cheap right there where they come out of the water.

Personally I think Nebulous and Beowulf are crazy. Lobster is wonderful!! :drool2:
But, to each their own! :flowers:
I don't get what all the hoopla is about sushi. I can't imagine enjoying raw fish, I don't care what is done to it, it's still RAW fish. Gross.
:barf:

I'm with you all the way here. I love lobster! No way in heck I would eat RAW fish. That's just nasty! :green:

Lobster is good, its just overrated and doesn't need to be the most expensive dish in a restaurant and you don't need to feel all luxurious while eating it, because it's not that special. :P

i'm telling you that the only reason it costs so much is getting it there from new england. the rest of that is marketing.

it's picnic food on the shore. the closer you are to the dock, the cheaper it is. they're scavengers and not really very desirable as food. our rabbis taught us that was behind making them unkosher. the bib ritual in high dollar places is pretty funny.

we got cookie tins ready to steam packed with a lobster, a half dozen clams and two filets of some kind of fish wapped around a couple of sausages with corn, carrots and potatoes for $4.95 in point judith , rhode island in the summer of 1968. i'll bet i could find the same pack out there today for ten and no more than fifteen if i was ready to buy enough of them.

a dinner like that in england or california wouldn't be available for less than $35 today. lobsters by themselves are rarely found at snazzy restaurants anywhere for less than $25 or $10/lb in the grocers that have live tanks.

they're farming them now too, so if you can buy them direct and find a cheap enough way to ship them in, they'll always be cheaper than a restaurant. that's what my parents and their closest friends did for new year's every year. the party was either in chicago, fort wayne or dallas and the lobster's were flown in from maine.

Steak. Like, my jesus, all you have to do is chop the cow.

here's a classy meat dish deserving of it's reputation. served with herbed wild rice and maybe julienne cut green beans with almond slivers and a real colorful side salad with a high dollar bottle of margaux or merlot.

c'est magnifique and will get you laid if that's what you were after serving it to somebody, male or female.

I know they are my opinions and nothing I've said in this thread is fact, just opinions like you said. Don't mind me.

This cabbage like something, it was awful, it nearly broke my teeth biting into it.
