...you know, the more I read this, the more I'm actually starting to respect - and like - the former Governor of Alaska...
Once again, Sarah Palin has made her critics look like idiots. A fake controversy (I like the neologism, fakeroversy) was generated when PETA expressed outrage over a picture of Palin posted of her Down syndrome son Trig standing on his service dog, named Jill Hadassah, a black Labrador.

193790_5_.jpg

As John Hinderaker of Powerline put it, …liberals went crazy. PETA and several other animal rights groups denounced Palin: “It’s odd that anyone — let alone a mother — would find it appropriate to post such a thing, with no apparent sympathy for the dog in the photo,” PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said in a statement to POLITICO. "Then again, PETA, along with everyone else, is used to the hard-hearted, seeming obliviousness of this bizarrely callous woman,” Newkirk said. She pointed to an interview Palin gave in 2008 at a farm while turkeys were slaughtered in the background as an example of past differences between the animal rights group and the former vice presidential candidate.

The only problem is that this outrage is entirely fake. Labs and some other large dog breeds are entirely fine being stepped on by children – they are big, tough, and love children. Erick Erickson of Redstate quickly dug up and tweeted a picture that Ellen Degeneres, a former PETA “Woman of the year” had tweeted of the very same practice:

B6YQ1_aIgAEpzSg.jpg:large

Holy crap. Imagine the outrage if @SarahPalinUSA’s kid did *this*. Oh, wait…. (Erick Erickson, RedState)

Sarah didn’t take long to fire back on Facebook: Dear PETA,

Chill. At least Trig didn’t eat the dog.

Hey, by the way, remember your “Woman of the Year”, Ellen DeGeneres? Did you get all wee-wee’d up when she posted this sweet picture?http://conservatives4palin.com/…/peta-woman-year-posts-phot…Hypocritical, much?

Did you go as crazy when your heroic Man-of-Your-Lifetime, Barack Obama, revealed he actually enjoyed eating dead dog meat?

Aren’t you the double-standard radicals always opposing Alaska’s Iditarod – the Last Great Race honoring dogs who are born to run in wide open spaces, while some of your pets “thrive” in a concrete jungle where they’re allowed outdoors to breathe and pee maybe once a day? (http://iditarod.com/ http://www.irondog.org/)

Aren’t you the same herd that opposes our commercial fishing jobs, claiming I encourage slaying and consuming wild, organic healthy protein sources called “fish”? (I do.)

Aren’t you the same anti-beef screamers blogging hate from your comfy leather office chairs, wrapped in your fashionable leather belts above your kickin’ new leather pumps you bought because your celebrity idols (who sport fur and crocodile purses) grinned in a tabloid wearing the exact same Louboutins exiting sleek cowhide covered limo seats on their way to some liberal fundraiser shindig at some sushi bar that features poor dead smelly roe (that I used to strip from our Bristol Bay-caught fish, and in a Dillingham cannery I packed those castoff fish eggs for you while laughing with co-workers about the suckers paying absurdly high prices to party with the throw away parts of our wild seafood)? I believe you call those discarded funky eggs “caviar”.

Yeah, you’re real credible on this, PETA. A shame, because I’ll bet we agree on what I hope is the true meaning of your mission – respecting God’s creation and critters.

Our pets, including Trig’s best buddy Jill Hadassah, are loved, spoiled and cared for more than some people care for their fellow man whose politics may not mesh with nonsensical liberally failed ways or don’t fit your flighty standards.

Jill is a precious part of our world. So is Trig.
- Sarah Palin

It’s a quiet holiday weekend, but Politico and the Washington Post have both taken notice of Palin’s devastating response. I suspect the story will spread in water cooler conversations as the work week resumes Monday.

Sarah Palin was unfairly demonized by the media as a purported idiot when she was a VP nominee, including the entirely fabricated “I can see Russia from my house” line from Tina Fey’s lips. But she has persisted and thrived. Sooner or later, the story in the media will begin to turn, and her wit, her way with words, and her courage and strength will be recognized beyond the conservative media. (American Thinker)

How would you like to be used as a stool.

That is an animal not a piece of ;?&£ing furniture!!!!!!

exactly, who cares if ellen posted a picture of the same thing?

how would palin like it if i stood on her? :|

Depending on the weight of the child (30-40lbs+), you better bet your ass that dog isn't going to enjoy being used as a stool. Especially if there's some underlying condition that hasn't been discovered yet. Animals don't show pain entirely like we do, unless it's extreme.

and palin's son looks about 30/40 pounds... which is a lot of weight to be push onto a dog like that...

God I love Palin! She can drive the left crazy like no one else can over the absolute dumbest things no less.

And to say dogs do not feel pain like us in the same way is just silly. If the dog did not like it he would move and quickly. It is that simple and making anything out of this from either picture is absolute insanity. Now if these pictures showed two boys kicking there dog in the head we might have a story here. Go Palin!

Dammit now you tell me. No wonder my 5'1 wife married me. She just wanted a stool for the kitchen when she can't reach the top shelves!

looks to me that he was standing on the dog's back/spin...

the boy doesn't look too light or short... he does have some weight to him...

you calling everyone that's not in agreement of letting people stand on dogs are "leftists" is incorrect...

I am saying this is a dumb attack when dogs do have self will and will move if they do not like something. And I am saying it is the left who hate Palin more then I hate fruit cake. And I really, really, really hate fruit cake. So leftists attacking her on this has nothing to do with kids standing on dogs but all Palin.

no, you're assuming that all leftists hate her, when in reality, you have no idea who hates who...

that's why you get things wrong liberty, you love and enjoy grouping everyone up when everyone is clearly not the same...

1. The 'child' is 7 and weighs at least 40-45 lbs. The dog appears to be a medium sized Labrador Retriever that weighs around 70-75 lbs. The weight of the child is more than enough to cause permanent spinal damage to the dog.

2. The dog is a trained service dog, which is basically on loan to the family until it reaches retirement age. These dogs cost anywhere from $15,000 to $40,000 to train.

3. To risk such injury to any dog is downright stupid and inexcusable. To risk that sort of injury to a very valuable service animal is criminal, and the agency that placed the dog with them will hopefully recall it and place it in a home where it's services will truly be valued.

4. Downs Syndrome or not, the kid needs to be taught not to mistreat animals ESPECIALLY his service dog that is trained to do exactly as it is told to help the child, even though it could've meant broken ribs, torn shoulder ligaments and/or spinal damage in this case. The next dog he does this to may maul the kid, and rightfully so, but it would ultimately be the dog that suffers most from it since it would be put to sleep for defending itself against injury.

I think I can safely say a majority of Leftists hate Palin pretty comfortably and still get most things overwhelmingly right. ;)

I wanted to ask our close family friend today who is a vet that treats everything from tigers to hamsters. But since I will not be seeing him for a while I ran into a vet for one the homes I had to a home inspection for and just had to ask him about this. Basically after showing him the photo he said it was all about nothing. And just like I said if the dog did not like it he would have moved immediately.

^Did it ever occur to you that this is his service dog? The dog knows not to move as it may make the child fall. Any vet that thinks this is nothing is not a vet I would take my animals to see.

Take a look at that picture of the dog again. It is relaxed and showing no signs of pain. And I think it is highly unlikely they train a dog for such a event.

I agree that the dog is probably fine, but what Jazzy said here is plausible

just because the dog looks relaxed doesn't mean the dog is relaxed...

there goes liberty again, assuming something when he knows nothing...

here's a quote from a dog trainer:

All you people saying the dog would move: I am a dog trainer. This is why I get people coming to me saying "My dog bit out of the blue!" No, your dog finally stopped tolerating it!

Well then the dog would have bitten him or moved or done both at the same time if the dog did not like it. Neither happened. But God bless Palin for bringing out the crazyness from the left.
