Do you prefer your books to be paperback or hardcover?

Does it even matter?

Doesn't matter to me, I don't really care about books.

If I wanted to start a classy looking library room / study in my house, I'd want hardcover for sure ...but I'll probably never want that. :P

Paperback. When I read, I find myself reading in bed and a paperback is just more malleable as I move around.

Yeah, paperback is better overall. I like a hard cover every now and then if it's a particularly important book to me, but most books are just paperback in my house.

I tend not to like paperbacks because they show wear and tear much more quickly, and then I feel like I need to buy a new book. There's something satisfying about hardcovers to me.

This is why I buy any important books in hardcover form, like all of my Tolkien's, they're hardcover and kept in a cupboard to protect them. But just common books to read, I usually buy those in paperback unless I end up loving them, then I'll also buy a hardcover :D

There's actually a third option that I've noticed has become more popular. My Tolkien's are these little almost Bible-like copies that are softcovers, but they're not paper. It's this kind of fake leather that is really pleasing to the touch. I have a few other books that are like this. They're pretty nice.

Oh those are fantastic!! Going to have to grab some of them at some point. I wish they'd print more of his other works in editions like this, it's hard finding some of them in hardcover! It's hard finding some of them, period!

Paperback books worked well for me when I'd keep them at work & use breaks for reading time; and there have been periods when I spent a good bit of time ...waiting...in airports or 'waiting rooms'. Liked to keep a paperback in my purse to take advantage of the 'wasted' time. They were cheaper, usually 'pop' novels like James Bond or Stephen King; & it didn't matter if they got scuffed up.

I remember all my grandma's paper back Danielle Steel books laying around her house. They were like 500 pages thick.
