I've seen it before and I avoid it. There's no way in hell you're going to convince me to shell out money to be a part of a forum when there are so many free alternatives.

Would have to provide some huge advantages, so I think it would only work for some extreme cases (eg. a forum with some exclusive resources that you can't really find elsewhere).

They don't seem to offer anything but an active forum, which you can find for free elsewhere.

I paid to be a member of a community that costed me about $600 a year.

I felt it was worth it.

I'm now the community manager making more than that each year.

But there was to be extreme value for any paid community to work or it won't work.
