Proboards has been around since the year 2000 and is one of the most popular free forum hosts still on the net to this day. It's amazing to see how far it's come since it was first released in 2000, and I remember when I first started getting into forums that the site just looked so basic compared to other hosts and software. Anyways I have a Proboards account and I am a member on a few different Proboards hosted forums. It does suck that if you went with their service you cannot transfer to self hosting, and I don't think they allow you to switch to Forums.net which is their premium service. Did you know that the Lost Media Wiki uses Proboards for their forum? It's the only well known forum that I know of that uses the service though I know there's other active ones though. Do you like Proboards?

You know I was helping someone else out with a ProBoards issue and was actually pretty impressed on how much you can do with it. For example you can actually edit the entire template and not just CSS.

It's a decent platform for a hosted forum, though I fear for the future with Patrick Clinger selling on and moving out in favour of an investment company that's losing money hand over fist. At least it's got a good present.

As for popular forums that use it, I know of a fair few, including the "Freaking Awesome Network" community: http://officialfan.proboards.com/

I like their logo and how they did the background.

I know it's a small thing, and I don't know if anyone else actually cares, but it drives me crazy when a forum uses the default "New Topic" / "New Post" / or Forum icons.

Yep, when I make a theme for a ProBoards I always try to make icons, too, just feels better!

I don't mind Proboards too much, I used it once. It seems to be somewhat modern for being so old. As in, they keep it up-to-date. If I ever had to ditch Jcink one day for some reason, I'd probably go with Proboards.

Proboards is cool if you were around the internet when the internet first started and hold nostalgia for that time period. Definitely a retro vibe.
