Using Proboards in 2022?

Uh-oh...you have a...umm...certain member there that doesn't like me very much. This'll be interesting, lol.

Don't sweat it; most days at the C2 I rarely if ever have to wear the admin cap (think Old West-style town marshal and go from there).

Unless it was for a business that I could generate revenue off of and I needed some of the features the paid software had that other software didn't, I'd probably never pay for forum software.

Do you remember when Internet Brands bought Jelsoft/vBulletin? Before that they were just a company that bought up as many auto-related forum sites as they could get their hands on to build their "network." Once they bought vBulletin, they converted every single one of them to vB, tailored vB to suit their needs and sort of screwed over the remaining vB customers with buggy, non-usable software. Vertical Scope is the same, they buy up every forum category they take an interest in, they tried to buy XF, but thankfully Kier and Mike had learned from what happened with Jelsoft and didn't sell, so they bought Proboards instead and now who knows what's going to happen to their "network" or to Proboards itself...

I was sad to see that The Admin Zone got bought by Threadloom.

Is threadloom owned by verticle scope too? I just clicked on the rules page at The Admin Zone and seen this: https://www.verticalscope.com/aboutus/tos.php?site=theadminzone.com
"THEADMINZONE.COM is owned and operated by VerticalScope Inc"

I have no desire to use proboards, I don't find free hosted forums to be very useful, at least for me. I like self-hosted forums, instead.
Yeah, Proboards had some pitfalls in the past, but I still find it very easy and usable.

I have used a lot of free-hosted forums ( as a user) and based on my experience proboards is really good. It has a clean interface and offers a global account to be used with other forums on proboards.

You may not know this, but this is my 20th year as a Proboards user. :)

Just because there is less people on forums that means they shouldn't have a nice fancy place to post with all the bells and whistles? I disagree. Even if it was just me and @Webster talking to each other on here, I'd still keep it on XF. :p
I second this fully. Forums are a niche product, for certain. However, I believe with commitment and intelligent marketing, they can still be relevant and successful (and also, simply enjoyable).

If I am being honest, ProBoards wouldn't even crack the Top Five of free-hosted forum software I'd recommend. Like what others have said, it is perfectly competent at the bare minimum.

Yeah there are still a few MASSIVE ones out there. They can be a success for sure.
