Ugh, there's so many popping up every day now, it's getting pathetic, I'm personally sick of seeing them. The majority of the time the people running them have no idea what they are doing and just want to run a forum which they think will get popular, most of the time it's on free hosted software, nothing unique is put into it, and it just dies after the first month.

I've lost interest in posting on them as well as nothing new happens on them, it's just the same crap day after day, and new boards that won't last the month.

What are your thoughts on Promotion Forums and Posting on them?

Well Ive already expressed my thoughts about running one in that statement I posted in the Announcements forum here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=137 They are not much fun to run, a TON of work and a ton of drama. That being said, it would still be open if I could afford to run it. Even if I didn't enjoy it, I still would have kept it open just so people have another place to advertise and network with others. But what happened has happened and it seems like there are many many many other places for people the achieve the same thing, so life goes on.

Anyways back on topic, I feel like when I am chatting with people in off topic areas of those types of forums, a lot of people are just being fake and not really wanting to have a legitimate conversation. They are simply trying to boost their post count up so they can either get more people looking at their signature (aka sig-ver-tising) or get more posts so they can request services on the forum.

The new ones that pop up all the time are quite comical. They are usually opened by people with failed forums who are desperate to have a forum with a large member base to be in control of. When they finally see that success it doesn't happen overnight, even with an advertising forum, they close it.

Its just a endless cycle.

Tons of work? I concur

tons of drama--I also concur.

That being said, I didn't mind being a part of a really great advertising forum. It was pretty nice. Lots of the people were great, some were a trial--but that's another story for another thread.

As Nebulous said, most people look at a successful advertising forum and start one up--just because they think a copy cat ad forum will be successful too. Doesn't always work like that.

Some ad forums from awhile back like Admin Network (Which I got admin at a few months ago

) are ok, but this whole mess of ad forums...just too much.

I used to run Madads for over a year and can contest to both being a lot of drama and work but it was fun for a while but after 16 months administrating it mostly on my own is when I got sick of it and closed it down because there was no one left to take over and I had no interest in working there anymore.

DOn't knock something just because it's on a free host as some of those ad boards on those free hosts were good in their time such as Madads and Hireem.

I would not think of going back to running a promotion forum. I had Forum Promotion Mania for a brief while, but even after I set up the forums and services and things like that, it just got to be too much already, and I wasn't even on the hunt for staff members yet! I was also thinking of all the problems Forum Advertiser went through when it came to hiring package staff, and I realized the same thing could happen to me if I decided to stick with FPM! and I wasn't really willing to take up the challenge of promoting and demoting staff members. I'd rather be a staff member at promotion forums than run a forum promotion site of my own.

In my opinion, it's just a bunch of trolls looking for a boost. I do clean and professional exchanges with people and what do I get in return? Posts such as lol and cool =). It really pisses me off

The only place I promote my forums anymore is Advertise Forums. I don't like FP as much as I used to, and the staff at AF do nice, clean professional posts. Which is really good. They post more than lol as well, which is nice.

At YTT I pretty much am trying to get away from promotion with services. I am trying to move the shift of things over just a bit so I wont loose members along the way.

Your's is more of a webmaster forum.

My one is one of the best ones but I have noticed alot of promotion forums advertised on FP (Forum Promotion) that havn't even set up guidelines. I knew of one that got promoted and hadn't even had one topic or post and had only a couple of forums.

A lot of the new ones aren't very good and won't last that long, though if someone wants to make one that they look like they spent more then 20 minutes making (preferably on a paid domain/hosting) then it is worth looking at in my opinion and considering joining.

If you can amke it owrk for you and get loads of members, then I don't mind havong another one. But if it's just going to be a 20 member thing and die, ugh... who needs those?

And the only way you know, is if you try, right?

Here's my view.. Why do people insist on creating a new site, when the niche has already been filled? .. I mean, why create a site, with the focus of your discussion promotion, when there are already 100's of successful promotion forums?

A lot of people think they can do better I guess.

Well a lot of people are wrong.

Another problem with promotion forums especially on real hosting and phpBB3, they don't have a clue how to do anything like install mods.

Or the actual labor that goes in to constantly finding staff.. It's not a fun forum. It's a lot of hard work to maintain.
