pros and cons about zoos?

There are arguments for and against zoos.

What are the pros and cons about zoos that you can think of?
 
The pros are that they protect endangered species, to an extent, but the cons are that these animals aren't meant to live in captivity, they're not meant to be on show for everyone as if they were playthings. It's not a good way for them to live.

DITTO!

To the pros here I might add...somewhat educational, especially for youngsters.
 
Pro - They keep animals safe from their natural predators and poaching, animals get food and healthcare.

Con - None, in my opinion. They have roofs over their heads, three squares a day and free healthcare, which is more than lots of humans do.

Yes, the animals (even rattlesnakes) are well-protected, are well fed, and most likely get excellent vet care. :)
There is though, that occasional idiot parent. :rolleyes:

The one who lets their little kid climb over the barrier to the gorilla compound.....for example.
