I hope there isn't a topic like this already.

What do you prefer when you see content on a forum/blog/website; do you judge the forum by its quality... or quantity?

I think quality and quantity go hand in hand. There needs to be good content and there needs to be a lot of it!

I agree with Nebulous, there can't be only 10 posts of good quality on one forum. THERE MUST BE MORE!

I have always thought that quality content is what draws people in.

True that, and fresh new content added on a regular basis keeps them around too.

Not sure how this is a debate.

Quality. Quantity works for some things, but not for forums.

A good forum has both.

It's horrible when 99% of the posts are either trolls or terrible forum games stuff. That gets annoying and boring so fast I quickly start searching for a new forum.

It's equally boring if you only get 5 interesting topics a week, because then there's really nothing to do and no reason to log on anymore for the next month.

I think you need both quality and quantity. No sense having good quality content being offered in only a few topics. Forums, in my opinion, need to keep up the quantity daily or the board gets 'old' real fast and people move on. I visited a forum a few days ago that 'looked' like it might be very good. Then I 'looked' at the New Posts/New Topics. They were weeks old. That makes me think that no one is putting in the effort to keep that board fresh and up-to-date. Funniest thing was that there was an Admin and three moderators online at the time. I went back later to 'look' and see if they had added any new content. The answer is no.

I seen that last night, I was on an promotion forum and seen the admin advertising his board, I go to the board and there was hardly any new posts / discussions made within the last week or two. Shouldn't he make a bunch of new topics / posts and then go promote his board? Why promote a stale old inactive thing?

Either they chat in private with only each other or they are using some sort of plug-in to make all the staff appear online even when they aren't.

I think I added about 10 topics yesterday. I am proud of myself. :P
I'm proud of you too and want you to know how much we appreciate it!

Quantity is important, but not as important as quality is. The matter is that many online communities are not able to find experienced posters who can create unique content with much quality. However, Forum Administrators care more about the quantity in order to show that their forums have many board messages. But when they understand that they have wrong, they cannot fix it. And I have to admit that it is pretty difficult to fix such a difficult situation. You need to have much experience.

I don't think it's all that hard to make decent posts as long as you have a decent education then you should be able to create and form discussions and debates of value to others.

Though I have to admit, it seems these days people in general strive to find new ways to which to communicate but seem to have forgotten to actually find things of which to share with others that are of value.

Quality or Quantity? both ! as a member i don't want to join IPB 1.3 powered forums. i think that most of ppl want to join your forum if u have very strong number of members and posts.
