Quotes & Sayings

"It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit."

Harry Truman ~ 1884-1972

"THE Past may be forgotten, but it never dies. The elements which in the most remote times have entered into a nation's composition endure through all its history, and help to mould that history, and to stamp the character and genius of the people."
- Thomas Rolleston (1857 – 1920)
Myths and Legends of the Celtic Race

There are times when suddenly you realize you are nearer the end than the beginning. And you wonder, you ask yourself, what the sum total of your life represents. What difference your being there at any time made to anything. Or if you've made any difference at all, really, particularly in comparison with other men's careers. I don't know if that kind of thinking is very healthy; but I must admit I've had some thoughts on those lines from time to time. - Col. Nicholson, The Bridge on the River Kwai

"It's not pining, it's passed on! This parrot is no more! It has ceased to be! It's expired and gone to meet its maker! This is a late parrot! It's a stiff! Bereft of life, it rests in peace! If you hadn't nailed it to the perch, it would be pushing up the daisies! It's metabolic processes are now history! He's off the twig! He's kicked the bucket, he's shuffled off the mortal coil, rung down the curtain and joined the choir invisible. This is an ex-parrot!"

Dead Parrot Sketch
Monty Python's Flying Circus
circa 1970

"The big question is whether you are going to be able to say a hearty yes to your adventure."

Joseph Campbell (1904 - 1987)

"If you must find your own path, and we have left you no easy path, then decide now to choose the hard path that leads to the life and the world that you want. … I believe we have given you a gift, a particular form of independence, because you do not owe the previous generation anything. Thanks to us, you owe it to the Chinese." - Stephen Colbert

Excuse me.

Would you please do some fact checking on the statements from a FICTIONAL TV show?

No, Liberals did NOT get 'women the right to vote'. Women's Sufferage in the US rose to prominence when a Republican Governor of Wyoming signed off on it. A Governor appointed by US Grant. Hardly a liberal.

And as far as the Black Vote goes. More states allowed Blacks to vote IN THE SOUTH than in the NORTH during Reconstruction. And it was a Democrat President, Wilson, who championed the Jim Crow Laws.

Anybody remember Governor Wallace during the Civil Rights Era? A Democrat.

Shall I continue?

THANK YOU, Doc! It may be necessary to put it in a different thread, but, absolutely, do continue! :clapping:

In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.
– Bill Cosby

I'm sorry ma'am, it won't do any good.

Think about it, anybody who would go out of their way to quote something from a TV script as if it were gospel with no vetting whatsoever probably has a good future ahead of them IN politics.

Right?
