Removing Elites

If you were on a forum and the admin made you an elite (special rank, access to a hidden forum, etc) because you were a good contributor to the forum.... How would you feel if they suddenly removed you with no real legitimate reasons behind it?

Pissed off, you should always give a reason for demoting someone.



If they did that to me I would probably leave. Shows the imaturity of an admin and I don't want to be a part of that.

Legitimate reasons:

• stripping the rank from someone who turned into a troll or someone who was bad for the forum.
  
• If they abandoned the forum (haven't logged in for 8 months or longer)..
  

Examples of bullsh*t reasons:

• We want to start fresh with some new elites.
  
• We have too many and someone has to go.

lol yeah I know what you mean. I got demoted from elites on a board for standing up to their inane policies and way of acting. They have really went downhill since I left that place as an administrator. It's rather disappointing to spend so much time there as staff only to watch it fall apart like it currently is. The best part is when they make the act of getting upset over it as petty when it's really the principle behind such an action that really gets to you.

Thats pretty childish.

Ive gotten into little arguments with elites and staff on this and other forums Ive ran. I wouldnt take away their rank for it. Each person is entitled to their opinion/way of thinking..

The best part was they never even formally told me why. I had to ask and drill it out of them probably because they had no good reason to do it in the first place. lol

I was demoted from elite from one advertising forum a while back while the staff on our two boards were feuding.. Never got an actual reason for it either. I actually didn't want to be elite there anyways because I disliked the way the admins behaved so I wasn't too bothered.

Being elite should feel like a honor to have the rank. If it's not an honor to be elite then I wouldn't be too bothered with losing it either simply for how little it means to you.

Well it does feel that way on certain forums. Once they strip you of it for no legitimate reason, then it feels like a slap in the face and you wonder why you should continue to hang around there anymore.

Yeah I don't blame you or anyone for thinking like that. It's like being punished for doing nothing wrong. No one likes being punished for no reason. I also don't get how a board can have too many elites or who exactly is the authority on how many elites a board should have? lol that don't make any sense at all. XD

Especially when the members cannot view who is in the groups. They only people who know the actual number is the admin.... Or i suppose one member who looked through every page of the member list and started counting. XD

Well you could go into the member list and sort by group to only show the elites but who would actually do that? lol



I mean who goes and says Well I wanted to join this forum but god damn you got one too many elites for me so no thanks.



The thought that anyone does that is hilarious at best.

yeah.. If I joined a forum with 1000 members and 999 of them were elite and I was the only one who wasnt, I wouldnt be bothered.

Haha I'd be mad! Of course I have been pretty neglectful of this place but that wasn't by choice! I have had prior engagements that hindered me from being about to get on but I there were forums I had been on for years and all of a sudden I was no longer a moderator and it was for a stupid reason!

I would be hurt and angry and demand to know why I was demoted. If I received no answer then I would leave the forum.

I don't care too much either as far as the demotion goes, it's just the principle of wanting people to trust you then going out and doing things like demotions with no explanation. It doesn't lend itself to being trustworthy in my opinion.
