Saffron for me

200.gif

I was thinking the other day about how bland Uncle Ben's rice was, it was all I knew. I enjoy rice so much nowadays!

Toss up between basmati and jasmine, really. They're our special occasion rice, though, if we are eating Indian or similar food. Day to day, we mostly eat just plain medium grain (Calrose) rice since my wife is Chinese and that's the norm for her.
Saffron for me
Saffron on rice is yummy. We don't have any saffron in the house right now. Something we need to get again.

Do it the easy way, lol, just grab packs of Saffron rice from the store. Not quite as good as making it fresh, but still tasty! That or find your local Indian cuisine place, you get some incredible saffron rice from them.

Actually, we have some good South Asian groceries in town so can probably get it there. A new one opened up recently on my way to work (well, if I take a back route). Or maybe even our regular East Asian grocers where we usually shop (again, Chinese wife).

Oh I love going to the Asian markets! We have one nearby called Lee Lee's and it's just amazing. Started going there because they sell a lot of Indian and Middle Eastern foods, and being former English colonies that includes a lot of British food for not outlandish prices, so we started small and slowly worked our way through the various Asian cultures, lol. Asia has some absolutely amazing foods!

Yeah, besides Chinese, we eat Vietnamese, Thai, Japanese, Indian and have had Persian but not in a while. I often have Middle Eastern fare like falafel and shawarma for lunches, too.

Making me hungry already, lol. Never got too much into Japanese cuisine, but Indian, Persian, Middle Eastern, Chinese? Absolutely!

There are so many that i forgot to even include long grain o_Oand medium rice

I like every cuisine
but I used to make some chinese dishes very often in the past that i learn from my friend that she is from china... but lately mostly i do Japanese and the most rice i use is Uruchimai my son love everything japanese . I use also a lot of Arborio rice for the non asian dishes .

Uncle Ben's (long grain white parboiled) is the mainstay; sometimes Jasmine or Basmati. And sometimes mix rice + farro.
