I think I've personally had the best alcoholic cake ever made in human history, a simple rum and dried fruits cake for Xmas. It's a big one too from Costco.ca for 17,99$CAD before taxes. How about you? Have you ever tried it yet or not personally? And if so, do you enjoy it or not according to you?

I have never had a rum cake, but now you've made me want to brave the Christmas Costco shopping crowd again and look for one of those!!

(are you a secret Costco advertiser?)

I think I have tried it, like in the 90s when I was a kid.

Is this in the bakery items or is it a brand-name specialty item? Seems like probably a holiday item and they'd have it both in Canada and the U.S. But I can't find it online; they might have it in the store, but not listed online. ??

There's one version of rum cake that I simply adore....

This rich and moist Jamaican Black Cake is the centerpiece dessert that’s perfect for any holiday or celebration. Black Cake, also known as rum cake, Christmas cake, and wedding cake, depending on when it’s served, is a staple dessert recipe in all of the Caribbean.

The use of alcohol in cakes is purely for show and maybe a little bit about the taste. There is no way you could get drunk off eating a rum cake. :p
That's good, because I simply cannot handle booze. I'm thinking, though, that a rum cake is traditionally soaked in rum after baking; it's the heat of cooking that evaporates the alcohol. And.....as I recall, rum tastes pretty good.
I'm ass u me ng that this must be a commercially packaged item, don't think the Costco bakery would take the time for soaking. (if it is, in fact, soaked) :dontknow:

Nop, house brand item.
THANKS!
Maybe it's only available in Canada, but if I get back to Costco soon I'm going to definitely look for that!

Never had it, but I wouldn't mind trying it out and seeing how it tastes.

Welp...we don't have that at this Costco; I looked all over for it, & then asked....NOP, Maybe next year?? So I just had to get another pumpkin pie. :)
