Ok one thing that has always boggled my mind...

Why do they have safety scissors in classrooms to protect the kids from getting hurt?

But they have those guillotine's (paper cutters) in plain sight where anyone can go and chop off any body part with ease?

Nope.. None at all. Perhaps they will make teachers put them away after a kid finally does lose a finger. Lol.

I hate those things. >.> My teacher used to collect all the scissors after we used them, paranoiac.

At every school I've been to, the guillotines were only used by teachers, I guess they kept an eye on it and kids knew not to touch it. Even in high school now, we're told that they're really delicate and since we don't know how to use them we shouldn't touch.

Whereas scissors, the kids use themselves. So they make them safer by making them unusable! And the world makes sense again.

The the guillotines usually have plastic around the blade, leaving a gap big enough to slide a few pieces of paper under. I think that's moderately safe.

The teacher cannot kept a 100% watchful eye on 30+ kids every second of the day. I know kids are smart enough not to touch it but I'm sure there is one or two in the world that might want to see how it feels to cut their own finger off.

well...in the uk that guillotine iwould be illegal anyway..........has to have a safety shield to prevent you getting your fingers under the blade

No shield here. I could grab your arm, hold it down and dismember you in a classroom here if I felt like it .

I've only ever had that giant paper cutter in our class once, and it was only for a week.

I cannot explain in words how much I wanted to go and cut something with it.

I always hated safety scissors. I could never cut a thing with them...

Idk why you'd keep those in the room like that.

Hmm...well while I had safety scissors in the classrooms I was in when I was younger, we never had a guillotine-like thing like that. We did have paper cutters but they were these nifty little machines that you would stick a stack of paper into and press some exterior button down and it would cut the paper. There was literally no way, short of taking the thing apart, that someone could get hurt.

...however, we did have the auto-stapler of death...that thing was intense, and stupid kids did get their hands forcefully stapled when they tried (and while some succeeded, some also failed) to wave their hand through it (it could sense motion/objects), and a pneumatic-like force forced a staple into the unwitting hand at high speeds.
