The Baby Food Diet, reportedly followed by the likes of Cheryl Cole and Jennifer Aniston, has led to a marked increase in sales of baby products in Britain.

Two weeks after it was rumoured that Miss Cole had eaten baby food in a bid to lose weight sales of dry baby food are up 59 per cent and wet baby food has increased by 20 per cent, according to Ocado.

Heinz Mum’s Own Creamed Porridge sales have increased by 100 per cent while past and Spaghetti purees are up 87 per cent.

Reese Witherspoon and Lady Gaga are also said to be fans of the diet. Miss Aniston is said to have eaten baby food ahead of starring in the film Just Go With It - a film which also starred Brooklyn Decker, a Sports Illustrated model.

The diet advocates 14 small portions of pureed food per day followed by an adult-sized dinner.

The diet has been criticised by nutritionists.

Nutritional therapist Janine Fahri, founder of London’s NutriLife clinic said: “The reason it’s called baby food is because it’s for babies. I’m an advocate of eating a little and often, but 14 times a day?”
