Should schools ban the selling of junk food and only have healthy snacks?

Our school tried it, they ended up not making enough money and bringing back most of it.

Ok.... So are you for or against the ban?

Couldn't care less personally. I don't buy food from the school anyway, it's a rip-off.

I really couldn't care less. They took the vending machines that sold the junk food out of the middle school my 8th grade year, I guess...but it might have been my freshman year. The vending machines in the high school have semi-healthy food...but all the candy is on one row (the E row) and it's only available before and after school.

I don't care, the local supermarket is cheaper anyway

I can see why the schools are trying to limit this stuff. In Canada, the leading cause of death right now is no longer smoking but obesity. it's pretty gross... I don't really care as long as they don't take my poutine away

We dont have vending machines in our schools around here. Just soda machines.

Anyways, I suppose it would make the cafeteria worker's job easier. There are many kids who have allergies or are diabetics or whatever and try to buy the junk food that will cause them to have health problems. The cafeteria workers need to keep a list of all these kids and deny sales when the kids try to purchase such items. Selling healthy snacks would save them some work and help them avoid getting fired if they make a mistake. Thats really the only upside I see to it.

Otherwise, it helps the school earn money which is a good thing.

If unhealthy food is a problem for your kid, you should've raised them on more healthy things.

The school should be able to sell whatever it darn well pleases.

I find it funny that school sell sugary snacks and the teachers get mad when their kids are bouncing off the walls and wont pay attention. lol

Nothing's wrong with having some junk food here and there, so I'm against the ban. Kids will eat junk food if they want to, just maybe not at school. Our school sells cookies, and I'll buy a pack once or twice a week, but it's usually on days where I don't eat a lot, and am still hungry. Food is food and you should know what you can and cannot eat. If you're unhealthy and you shouldn't be eating junk food, then that's your fault. Maybe ban junk food throughout elementary school, but by middle school, you should begin to know if you're full or not and what's good or bad for you.

Well, what's kind of funny is, we had a vending machine, when I was in high school, that was loaded with things like potato chips, candies, stuff like that, but yet we also had a soda machine, that had diet soda... Now, that doesn't make sense, really. We did have regular soda in the beginning, but at the end they started selling diet soda instead of regular. I can't remember what grade I was in when this happened. But the nice thing is, too, is that they also had another vending machine that had juices and water in it as well, which made for a healthy alternative. So I don't know how I feel about this, really.
