Should the Theory of Evolution be compulsory in schools?

I worded this wrong:

The thing is I don't feel evolutionism should be compulsory. As I said before, it works well the way it is now. Parents can just teach their children about evolutionism.

I meant to say this:

What is wrong with parents teaching their own kids the creationism theory if they want while the evolution theory is taught in schools?

Evolutionism is already compulsory in most schools, parents can educate on intelligent design if they want.

I meant that I believe human life originated in Africa. Whether it evolved there or by chance of intelligent design makes no difference to me. There's truth to both theories so you can't completely throw out intelligent design.

Well, intelligent design isn't a theory. All there is to it are negative arguments, this can't be explained, therefore an intelligent designer must be involved. It doesn't tell us anything. It only pretends to have an answer to things which we are ignorant about, and this answer can't even be tested to determine whether it is true or not. Intelligent design can be thrown out as a useless explanation in the same way that intelligent falling can with respect to the theory of gravity.

Please, keep the discussion to the topic on hand, and not a religious debate.

I think it should be made compulsory because mostly the process of choosing science and faith occurs by this junction. When i read the theory of evolution, like everyone else I beguiled at the fact that evolution do make a lot more sense that what the other vital theories make. For example, to beleive in spontaneous creation, we must accept the fact that to a ardently relegious person, such teachings is supreme and that since the phenomenon is only a one time phenomenon, science cannot proove or disprove the theory. However I was astonished with the striking evidence enmassed and the strong foundation in which the theory of evolution was based. so its like at this junction, we get to choose our own pointg of view, be in science or relegion. In the wake of above arguemnets, I think it should be made compulsory within the age group that can grasp the meaning of the theories.

A great deal of the posts in this thread are very saddening to read

Alright, so as far as evolution being taught in schools? Obviously it should be taught in biology, evolutionary biology is based entirely off of evolution (a unanimously accepted scientific theory) and evolutionary biology is a large part of biology.

I mean does anyone here actually disagree with evolution as a theory or feel that the evidence provided over the past two centuries in support of evolution is insufficient?

Creationism? That can be taught in a class focusing on religion, alongside the teachings of the Koran, the Dhammapada, Mahabhrata and the Ramayana.
