This was on a website I use from time to time.

Website Down Due To Hardware Failure

The backend server crashed and doesn't boot any more probably due to a disk failure on one of the boot disks. The software raid didn't help, it just won't boot! We are working hard to reinstall everything and bring the website back online as quick as possible.

I said I use the site once in awhile, I didn't say I'd ever donated anything to them, and I have their popup ads blocked as well.

So maybe I'm the reason they can't afford a new server.
