Does a forum need to have a good skin / theme for you to want to post there?

Does a forum need to have a big selection of themes?

Do you prefer light or dark based themes? Should all forums have both as an option?

No, they're nice to have, but when it comes to skins or themes EVERYONE ends up buying their themes, and they're always the same themes, so...they don't impact my opinion much at all. I make my own, sometimes using a base, most of the time just using the default theme and altering it. Most work ok, some are terrible :D

When it comes to other forums, themes are irrelevant, good content and good community matter more.

I believe every forum should have a light and dark theme option at least. As far as having a ton of themes, not necessarily but having at least one or two alternates from the default style is nice.

Depends on the theme/forum; back over in the days of Zetaboards themes were all the rage.
But yes, its' the forum that matters.

They aren't to me. If my eyes hurt while being on that forum then I won't care how nice the people are or how good the content is, its not worth having an actual migraine over. :p
Ok, let me rephrase -- Themes are irrelevant so long as a light and dark option are available in decent tones :D

I'm a fancy bitch, and so, because of that, I have sometimes left forums simply because I didn't like the aesthetic of the forum. I like things that look nice, and I like when forums look like they've had an actual care / thought put into how they look. Frankly, it matters, and a lot of the forum owners who think it doesn't, simply aren't able to make a forum that looks good / won't fork over the money to bring their forum up to a basic standard.

My eyes aren't so good as they once were and I find light theme with dark text is easiest for me to read.

I tend to like darker themes but light ones can be pleasant also if done right.

I think a good theme is important to members. Too many bad themes for members to choose from can be overwhelming too so if you have many, make sute that they are nice.

On my forum I only have one theme because I have recieved positive feedback about it, plus I think of it as kind of a brand.

I think as long as there's been some effort to edit the default theme it's fine. I do think a forum looks much cooler with a new theme other than the default one that came with the software. The only time I wouldn't post on a forum due to it's design is if the colors clash and I can't read the text, though I have never came across a forum that had a theme like that before.
