lights, TV, radio, computer, whatever, on. Or off.

pitch black, dead silent.

clothed, unclothed, something in between.

shotgun on beside table, hunting knife on belt, pistol in pocket.

Thunderstorms, tropical storms, blizzards, ice storms, hurricane.

home bedroom, camper, tent, motel, van, dining room floor.

on call, on break while on duty, 8 on 8 off, etc


It seems that necessity, and repeated exhaustion, gets you passed the "I can't sleep unless...."

Sometimes I read before going to sleep and I suppose I prefer quiet darkness.

I have to sleep with a night light or some kind of led light that doesn't make me freak out because it's pitch black - anxiety attacks

I usually read before bed, or play magic puzzles on the ipad

if I cant sleep or have hypnic jerks then I try to calm myself by listening to music. - Doom usually.

Silent darkness for me, although it's not a perfect darkness thanks to LED lights on my alarm clock and the router, but they don't bother me.
