Why do alarm clocks have a snooze button?

Does yours have one and do you use it? I thought the whole purpose of an alarm clock was so that it wakes you up on time

What do you do...tape it to your ear at night?

My alarm clock has a snooze button. I used to use it, but then it kept waking me up. So now I turn it off and drift back to sleep.

yay, 72,000th post.

I use it everyday, however recently I have been sleeping past it. Turned it to max volume but still doesnt make any difference :/

My old alarm clock used to get stuck. I would push the snooze button and it would be stuck being pushed down the alarm would never go off again. Obviously I had to get a new one..

Mine is my phone, but it does have a snooze option. I've never pressed the snooze button unless it was by mistake. What I do is I set my alarm to 5:55 AM, that way, I can just chill out for 5 minutes, while still getting up on time at 6 AM. I'm not a heavy sleeper, but I do sleep, it's just that once I'm awake, I'm awake, I can't just fall back to sleep within 5 minutes. It's hard for me to fall back asleep, and I can honestly say that I've never been late due to me oversleeping.

When I did use an alarm, I slept in more. Why use the snooze button when you can just sleep through it and not have to move a muscle?
