Something tells me Nicola Sturgeon Wee Jimmie Krankie is running a scam here, using Scottish independence as a fundraising grift.....

The head of the devolved government in north Britain, the First Minister of Scotland, has unilaterally declared a fresh independence referendum after her party lost the last ‘once in a generation’ vote less than eight years ago.

Europhile Scottish nationalists are taking a key lesson from the Brussels playbook on winning referendums: keep asking until you get the right answer. It was a tactic Brexiteers feared after Britain voted against the European Union’s wishes in 2016 given the tactic was seen at the time of the Maastricht Treaty but is now making a sorry appearance in the north of Britain.

Despite the Scottish National Party — left-wing nationalists who want to split the north of Britain off from the United Kingdom and become a small member state of the European Union — having agreed to a once-in-a-generation vote back in 2014 and the British government now not agreeing to another referendum so soon, their leader unilaterally announced a fresh vote on Tuesday.

Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said today there would be a “consultative” vote on Scottish independence next year, naming an October 19 date, The Times reports. Should it take place, that vote would be only a little over nine years after the last one on the subject, a far cry from the once-in-a-generation vote it was promised to be at the time.
@steel bat, you're the resident Brit here; what are your thoughts on the above?

As stated in the thread title, Scotland was given a free referendum in 2014 to decide whether they wanted to stay part of the United Kingdom or not.
The people of Scotland are not slaves, second class citizens, or otherwise unfairly subjugated, Scotland has an almost independant Assembly by which the Scots themselves can make their own decisions about almost internal is all issues, that is for the most part being able to decide their own laws and taxes.
For some issues, like the defense of the Realm or matters of International policy, it simply makes more sense to have decisions at a UK level and for that reason it is not practical to keep having referendums every few years until Nicola Sturgeon gets her own way

From what I understand, this is somewhat similar to what happens in the US, with some States very much setting their own, more local stamp on an overall US policy.

From what I've seen, most English people wouldn't give two hoots if Scotland did choose to become independant - except that what English tax money that flows in a Northerly direction, as at present, stays South of the border.

Sorry for the slow reply - been doing other things for the last few days.

We've been helping my son buy a house and Dad & his toolbox has been required for things like putting up curtain poles and shelves.

I hope they get their independence, the more we have separate Democratic countries the better it is for the world.
