Do you mind if a forum you are on converts to a different software?

No I don't. I've never really been picky about what software a forum is on, to be honest. As long as, if after the conversion, the forum still looks nice, then it doesn't bother me.

Nope, I have changed my forum software 3 times. from phpbb3 to smf to mybb

Honestly, mybb is the greatest free software to deal with. I am thinking of buying a vbulletin soon too, but when I make some money.

I'm alright with the software changes as long as it's needed, i.e. if the software the board is currently running becomes deprecated and there are no more planned releases for the project, which would obviously be a big security flaw.. but unless there's an actual reason, I say just stick with what you've got. Usually conversions can take a long time (based off of how much experience the admin(s) has/have) and sometimes, they can kill a community. A website I used to go to switched from phpBB after three years to vBulletin and they ended up dying completely. The admin (who was barely ever there anyways) tried to switch back to phpBB but it's been down for a month.

commandermadi: $200~ is a lot for forum software. MyBB is a lot like vBulletin already, so unless you're prepared to pay that much, I suggest staying on MyBB.

To each his own no?

I think the next thing I'm going to teach you, Off Topix, is how to tell when I'm kidding and when I'm being serious.

Well Ive been contemplating selling my vb 4 publishing suite license and switching to IPB (http://www.invisionpower.com/). I bet I can get at least $120 for it which will be more than enough to get an IPB license because I already have some money in my paypal account.... Ive tried to like vb4 but I just cant really get into it.

Not sure though.

I'm not a huge fan of IPB, to be honest, but I've seen some nice looking forums on that software, so who knows? It might be worth a try!

Considering how vBulletin was already around $200, why would you want to waste more money on software? Buy your daughter or yourself somethin' nice with that money... Off Topix doesn't need to go from vBulletin, arguably some of the best message board software available, to IPB.
