I think the best thing to do if someone threatens is to call the Police or 911 and then that person can be taken in for a 72 hr hold. I mean, if someone verbalizes it, you don't know if they are serious or not. If they are, they will get proper help. If not, they will then not be saying that again knowing your are going to call for immediate help. I mean that is what I think would be wise to do in one's personal life. For online stuff, I would assume that something would be reported to the Board Administrators and support? Not sure

Speaking of that. I've had 2 different ex girlfriends threaten me with suicide after the break up if I didn't take them back.

I've had an X that put his mother up to calling & telling me that he's said he was going to commit suicide & was in the bathroom & had taken a bunch of pills; would I please come over & try to stop him. I did call the police instead. They gave me a call back to let me know that it was all okay. I think it's pretty crummy to pull tricks like that.

I dated a girl when I was in my late teens / early 20s who had an ex-boyfriend that threatened her with suicide if she didn't take him back. She told him to do it and he did. She never blamed herself for what he did though.

I met a woman whose husband did the exact same thing and they had kids together. It was a very toxic marriage. She didn't blame herself when he took his own life either.

As she shouldn’t. I don’t think anyone should be telling a suicidal person “Go ahead and do it then!” but ultimately if they do go through with it, it was a personal decision that they made. It’s nobody else’s fault.

A couple nasty people I’ve met in my life told me I should kill myself, but I’m still here.

Almost everybody I know these days is suicidal to some point. Buut the only time I've ever really experienced it on a forum was when I was a moderator and it was from somebody who was clearly only doing it to guilt trip the staff after he had gotten in trouble.

I don't think my ex was suicidal when she threatened it. But either way I was past the point of caring because I couldn't deal wit her anymore and I didn't like how she was treating my kids.

Was Elizabeth mentally ill? Yes she was. She was a very disturbed person.

Did my kids need to be around someone like that? Absolutely not.

Sounds like that person was just trolling.

I do try to offer support - but at the same time, I make it very clear that I am not a replacement for a therapist.

I'll do my best - but I'll make sure they know I'm not qualified to give them everything they need.

I used to have suicidal thoughts myself and it's just something you have to overcome on your own. I got passed all of that. I realized one major thing. No one else can help you. The only person that can help you, IS YOU. No one can stop you BUT YOU. You have to want to live FOR YOU. It really and truly is an individual decision.

Yeah, I honestly agree. This goes for mostly any mental health issue in my case alongside supports I got via school. I can only change myself and no one else can do it for me.

Sounds like that person was just trolling.

Well he was certainly a character.

I'm a little fuzzy on the details (and so are the other former staff involved, it's been a few years) but I vaguely remember him messaging one of us on staff once to tell us he wasn't going to be able to be active for awhile because he was most likely going to jail. He was leaving a strip club and hit somebody with his car?? Or something to that effect. We were just kind of like... what?
