The national public health emergency around Covid-19 officially ends in the United States on Thursday, May 11, more than three years after it was first declared. This comes as the World Health Organization announced last week that Covid-19 no longer constitutes a global health emergency.
What does all this mean about the threat Covid-19 poses to people? Is it right to end the worldwide and US states of emergency, or is it too soon? What have been some key lessons learned during the past three years? What investments must continue to prevent and treat this coronavirus? And what should people who remain at high risk for severe Covid-19, and their family members, do?
To help us with these questions, I spoke with CNN Medical Analyst Dr. Leana Wen. Wen is an emergency physician and professor of health policy and management at the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health. She previously served as Baltimore's health commissioner.

Our governor ended our mask mandate for the state a while back, but the medical facilities opted to keep mask requirement in place.
So, I was at one of our facilities yesterday and today. Mask requirement there was optional for the first time in years; the personnel that I saw all had masks on, very few of the (supposed) patients were not wearing masks. I did not....felt good; I am ready for this to be done with.

About time; Covid is now pretty much endemic, which means we're all either infected or will be infected at some point.

I'm glad we're at this point now. We should be treating covid like the flu. It's still around and we'll get sick with it, but taking precaution is still very important. Sneeze/cough into your elbow, wash your hands, don't go out if you're sick, wear a mask if you absolutely need to leave and you do have symptoms, but go on with life.

I still see people who wear masks like the pandemic is in full swing, which is their right, but its kind of odd to me.

I do too; what I think is that they must have some condition that would likely be made worse or more dangerous if they caught some kind of virus that's floating around...maybe even a cold or just plain flu?

I was talking about people I know who are just paranoid / traumatised from the pandemic, they have no real reason to mask up.

Although what you mentioned is true for lots of other people though.
