The Deserved Decline of Firefox

I used to use FireFox from it's very, very early days (pre-2.0), loved it! I use WaterFox these days as my primary and Brave as my backup, both really solid browsers. I also have Baselisk, Vivaldi and a couple of others that use different engines.
Lol me too unfortunately. I have been using Gmail since the days of the beta. In fact I was invited to it via another user.
Me too! Back when it wasn't a guarantee you'd get into the new EXCLUSIVE gmail :D
Browsers come, and browsers go.

Remember Netscape?

AOL.

Then IE.
Eww, Nutscrap Navigator...horrible!

I use to use Seamonkey which was a slightly different version of firefox.
I think it's just been left behind because Google is Google.. Even Opera has reinvented itself to be something more then just a browse.

If the fire goes out, use water instead: https://www.waterfox.net
Never heard of that! How clever :P

I sure hope Firefox doesn't go anywhere.
They're one of the only Chromium competitors left.

I was just watching a video on Chromium, pretty cool. Anyone can use their code as a base and create their own browser on top of it.

I hope it doesn't go away like IE T-T

Did you like IE?

Browsers come, and browsers go.

I remember using Netscape a lot back in the early days.

Eww, Nutscrap Navigator...horrible!

IE was just as terrible back then :P
Seamonkey

Never heard of that one :|

Crazy how they can make a great operating system but a crappy browser.
Ugh, all of the time wasted on workarounds for the slow adopters still stuck on IE for all those years. Nightmare!

Not that they didn't fail spectacularly with their OS, too. Windows ME, Windows Vista, Windows 8 :D

I don't have a problem with Firefox, I'm currently using it right now and I have it on my phone too. I only have Chrome since I needed to have it for when I played DnD with some buddies online a few years ago.

That’s so crazy to think about!

It’s been too many years hahaah

I even have an XP machine with a working version of Tor on it. Or, rather, it WAS working the last time I messed with it.

Haven't used it, and haven't wanted to use that browser in years. And come to think of it, I haven't had that machine running in ages as well.

Trust me, there is nothing on the 'dark web' worth the trouble, and risk, of getting to.

What kinds of crazy stuff did you see on the dark web?

One thing that irks me about Firefox are its too frequent updates. For example, at work, I install the latest version on several computers today, only for the developers to dish out a newer version in a day or two, causing Firefox to display 'new version available' notification to all non-admin users who due to lack of admin rights on their workstations, can't update it by themselves, but have to call me if they want the notification to go away.

Google Chrome doesn't require admin rights to perform an auto-update, from what I've noticed. Also, updates are much less frequent.

In either case, I don't use either. Opera FTW!

Definitely. I'm a big fan of Opera. It has the best extensions and is fast compared to all of the other browsers. I did like Firefox for a little while when it was relevant. It just sucks compared to what I'm used to.

Firefox does seem to be making a comeback I would assume, as they are bringing out new updates and more features that are really interesting and favourable for their users, so I guess let's see what the future of Firefox holds.

Pls do something Mozilla, I still can't believe IE died and I don't want Firefox to go down that path. I don't really use it, but I just want it to stay lol

It was several years ago when I was doing the research for a couple of projects.

Now, you have to realize that I would say about a third of these sites are run by law enforcement of various stripes.

But, during my travels through it I saw sites that promised that they could arrange the emigration of various sorts of domestic 'helpers' from any number of countries to fit almost any criteria you might have in mind, there were all sorts of dietary supplements available and some which would ordinarily require a prescription including human or animal blood, and of course there was every sort of porn including what I do remember as claiming to be full videos of the forced feminization of a straight man and the rape of a married woman claiming to be a real "behind the green door".

One site that I'm pretty sure was being run 'by the cops' just looked too good to be true and was selling various firearms.

Some of these sites would be thrown up and mentioned in chatrooms, and then be gone again in less than a day. Others that were there may still be there.

The 'dark web' was, and from what I've seen, still is, an ever moving and ever changing swamp of everything that has ever been wrong with humanity.

Oh, by the way....

What I had gone out looking for was WORK RELATED.

I was working in a state information and technology office, and had gone out in search of lists of email addresses and phone numbers that the spammers were using.

Not only were they easy to find, you could get them sorted by state, area code, and any other way you wanted, by the thousands. Some of them had tag lines of stuff like "20% response rate".
