It is said the eyes are the windows to the soul, and the late, great director Alfred Hitchcock had quite a way with eyes. Though most of the peepers shown in this tribute to Hitch reveal dark, disturbed and fearful souls behind them.

Like them? Yes.

Able to watch them late at night while alone in the house and then go to bed without having an interesting night of it?

No.

He was a true master of psychological terror (sometimes you never saw the bad guy, which was worse than showing it) that is unknown in today's films. Now, they substitute gore and call it a horror movie.

Today is National Alfred Hitchcock Day, so to pay tribute to the legendary master of suspense, we’re revisiting 13 of his finest pictures.

Hitch himself would be pleased that we settled on a nice, odd number to whittle our picks down to—the unlucky number 13 repeatedly crops up in his work, and it was reportedly his favorite number. But these are certainly only the tip of the iceberg; the prolific filmmaker managed to direct 54 movies over the course of six decades. It’s an unparalleled body of work that’s certainly worth revisiting.
