Jon Stewart Asks: Will The Keystone Pipeline Debate Ever End?!

The Keystone XL pipeline remains a contentious political issue that has dragged on for more than a decade , despite the fact that the U.S. is already riddled with pipelines delivering oil from Canada. Isn't is about time to move on?

Video

Thoughts?

It will be time to move on when it is built. The more energy we are making and getting the better. Gas prices are so cheap because opec is scared to death America will go energy independent. Plus building that thing will give tens of thousands of jobs.

Even when I was a liberal/progressive, I supported Keystone - and the related shale/fracking boom - so I agree w/Liberty on this one.

i think it is time to move on and not build it...

the reasons why it's been stalled are due to security and danger issues, right? :|

Well hell then if that is the reason to stop things we might as well just pack up life altogether.

it makes more sense not to build it...

Exactly. Private industry is going to build it. More jobs more energy. Build it and do it soon. Very few negatives not to.

*deadpans* Doc, Liberty, let's go over and help Freezy get back on his feet again...

I do not think prices will go to the high price they once were again. Opec is trying to destroy the North American fracking industry with the low prices. They may hurt it pretty bad but they will never completely destroy it. Fracking prices cost more to bring the energy out of the ground but eventually Opec will raise prices again and fracking will power up again. And in years to come fracking will continue to get cheaper and cheaper to bring up out of the ground. Opecs days are numbered.

But obama is not concerned about the potential risks since every study under the sun has been done showing the environmental risks are extremely low. Obama has a very big soft spot for the middle east and he knows this pipeline is just another shovel full deeper in burying the dominance of middle east oil.

Right now in Texas, a foreign corporation, TransCanada, is using our government's 5th Amendment right of eminent domain to confiscate private land belonging to Americans, to build a massive oil pipeline so TransCanada can ship oil from the Gulf of Mexico to non-Americans around the world. Oil, by the way, that will accelerate our planet's plunge into global warming-induced catastrophe. So the question is, "Why?"

A railroad oil spill will be miniscule compared to the colossal scale of a earthquake causing a pipeline spill. The environmental disaster will be devastating to lakes, rivers, streams, wildlife refuges, farmland, grasslands, national forest, indian reservation, and national and state parks. The pipe will not make gas prices any cheaper either.

Don't mess with Texas...
...unless you have the money to buy them off.

The Keystone XL pipeline will be moving oil from Canada to be sold overseas. It won't do a thing for the US except pollute (and provide a target for terrorists, if you worry about that sort of thing)... and the Texas government is rolling over, letting a foreign company take land from Texans, involuntarily, to put it through.

Why does anyone support this?

Wind and solar are available now. They're proven technology, they employ people, they make us independent of foreign dictatorships and/or invasion, they don't pollute, they're getting cheaper all the time. and they can fill the gap in our energy-needs growth far better than fossil fuels can.

Freezy, the pipeline is going to be built, one way or the other...and Canada's made it very clear that the tar sands will be shipped somewhere, either to us (where it should go) or to China (who'll gladly accept it if not for any other reason than to stick another thumb in America's eye)....

--Few energy projects have inspired the level of vitriol surrounding the Keystone XL Pipeline, that would run 1,700 miles from Alberta, Canada through the United States to refineries on the Gulf of Mexico.

Freezy you gotta post more facts in written words then videos for most of us to bother. Skimming through literature is much easier then watching hours of stuff I am probably not going tot agree with.

So responding to what you have put in writing.

The Alaskan pipeline has had a good track record of not causing environmental damages. Plus the fact we already have thousands of miles of piping criss crossing this country with a excellent track record.

Solar and Wind Power are proven to be unreliable and no where near as efficient as the resources we pull from the ground. Even Germany one of the biggest in the world for investing in solar and wind is realizing the horror of there mistake and how little good it did helping with the energy needs after spending billions and billions of dollars and not even getting close to recouping there investment.

And please spare me the global warming hoax argument for not meeting the energy needs of the world.

The one and only concern I see here is private land owners who do not want to sell there land to have this built.

:blah: @true liberty, even though you're for companies stealing people's land... you should change your username to something that more fits you... ;)

How To Stop An Oil And Gas Pipeline: The Unist'ot'en Camp Resistance
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiVxyLb1hJA

Over the past four years, the Unist'ot'en clan of the Wet’suwet’en nation have literally built a strategy to keep three proposed oil and gas pipelines from crossing their land. Concerned about the environmental damage a leak could cause on land they've never given up, they've constructed a protection camp to block pipeline companies. As opposition to the development of Alberta's tar sands and to fracking projects grows across Canada, with First Nations communities on the front lines, the Unist'ot'en camp is an example of resistance that everyone is watching.

I think you need to read what I wrote again because no where in what I wrote do I support taking peoples land. In fact it is the only thing in what you shared I agreed with that is a concern.

obviously you're for the people being forced to sell or have their land taken from them because you're in support of the creation of the pipeline, duh!

and the truth and proof are all in the videos i've posted...

your brainwashing media makes you think and believe for yourself...

you don't know anything unless you here it from your fox news and friends, so spare me any of your fallacy and untruths you try to spew at me and others about this subject or any other subject...

Because I support the pipeline l support taking people's land? That's like saying I support the 2nd amendment so I must support innocent people being shot with guns.

Your videos have been questionable. But besides that you need to show more in writing for people who want debate instead of spending a day watching hours of videos.

You make it sound like all here who watch Fox and are obvious political junkies get 100% of there news from only one source. When someone like me watches a hour in the morning while reading my favorite news sources online while having breakfast. And another hour at night before my wife's favorite comedy or Spanish show comes on when I am home relaxing with the wife and also reading my favorite news sources online. LOL! You are funny.

okay, lets get something straight, you're in support of the creation of the pipeline, so therefor you support them taking people's land... that's the only way they're able to build it...

all the other crap you posted is :blah:

No they can build a pipeline without choosing to force people to sell there land. We have tens of thousands of miles of highway across America. There is no reason they can't build this pipeline using the same principles.
