The manga is always different than the anime.
The same applies to Rahxephon, Dragon Ball Z, and Hellsing...and those are just a few examples. The anime normally goes in a different route and tells the story a different way.
Anime in general is far different than the manga most of the time. Its very very uncommon that any anime goes 100% with the books.
