I'm come to a two minds kind of thought when it comes to fossil fuels...on the one hand, I'm still somewhat of the opinion that we shouldn't burn as much of the fossil fuels out there (coal, oil & natural gas) as we currently do. On the other hand, I'm starting to believe that, while abundant in areas, so-called green energies will not soon - if ever - fully replace them (that said, I think there is a place for them in an "all of the above" energy strategy).

Am I wrong to think that above? *scratches head in thought* ...maybe I have truly changed political philosophies over the past few weeks...

I do believe a true revolution in new kinds of ways to create energy is coming. But I do not believe it is coming for another 20 or 30 years to be useful for everyone. And also cleaner ways to burn the energy under our ground keeps getting better and better also. But I am all for using as much as we possibly can if it keeps our economy running and people struggling less.

The question then becomes, 'how do you get there?' Do you get there via. the free market or do you play favorites? This is actually one area where we really should - and I never thought I'd ever say this - let the free market make the final decision; keep enough of a regulatory structure in place but otherwise let the market be the final arbiter.

One thing I have asked every "solar panels is the way to go" advocate, and most recently, one who stopped by where we live now because our current house is high traffic exposure and would make a great advertising space.....

"Will the panels pay for themselves before they lose so much efficiency that they have to be replaced?"

Usually in 7 to 12 years, although that number has crept up slightly with the new generation of panels. They still do not age well and as they get older, they churn out less juice per given hour of sunlight.

The guy with the brochures that stopped by when I was mowing the grass a few months ago hemmed and hawed and finally said he'd have to check that out and get back to me. Haven't seen him since.
