Things you dislike in gaming?

Those complicated puzzles, the lengthy boss fights, losing 1-ups, and even those lousy turns in racetracks are some of the things I don't like.

Single player games that feature a multiplayer component and attach trophies/achievements to the multiplayer. It makes getting every trophy/achievement impossible if you have zero interest in the multiplayer, and also impossible to get if the multiplayer shuts down before you do earn them all. Especially nowadays when you need to pay for PS+ or XBL to play online. If a game has good multiplayer I'll play it without a carrot on a stick like that hanging in front of me.

lol I gave up on collecting all trophies when I noticed they were doing silly shit like that.

YES! For real! That annoys me so much. It is one of the things I check for if when I am deciding whether to go for the platinum or not.

I am not particularly fond enemies that level with you. I do like the sense of progress when you are able to out level them. The whole power fantasy thing. I think it is the same with leveled content as it is weird to be punished for completing content when you are "too low level" so you don't get the most optimum reward.

RNG loot! That can really annoy me! FFIV is one of my favourite Final Fantasy games, if not my actual favourite. But I really don't have the patience for all their RNG grinding you need to do for the optional summons and equipment.

Button mashing! I can't believe I just remembered that now! But when a game wants you to rapidly press one or more buttons over a short period of time, I am out. A friend finds it amusing how little effort I put into it. I might make a half hearted attempt for a few seconds and then just resign myself to my fate.

I can't speak for all games but I get the impression that games as a medium are trying to move away from that, or at least from it being the sole option. I know Naughty Dog's more recent titles provide the choice of mashing or holding the button and I'm sure I've seen some others offer the choice too, due to the increase in disability options in games over the past few years.

Yeah, I get that impression too. It seemed to mostly be big in the PS2/3 era. Haha I always felt cheated when it would randomly show up in an unrelated game genre. Off the top of my head Dragon Ball Z Ultimate Tenkaichi had at least two boss encounters where you had to button mash to progress. I am so trash at that, so it was pretty much gg for me and I never got to finish the storymode.

Unlikable characters. In JRPGS, some, they seem to hit on annoying tropes. Trails of Cold Steel 3 and 4 really deviated from the first two games. Lack of a story is something else I can't stand.

Online games that close down the servers :(
