Since you two know more about Motorcycles and the like then I do. Is it particularly smart of a driver to be wearing shorts while driving a Motorcycle? Or plain dumb?

There is two people at work who ride motorcycles. I want to be cool like them. Everyone usually turns their head when they come into work.

Sci, it is particularly stupid to wear shorts while operating a motorcycle.

On 2 wheels, you are so much more likely to get hit and the damage done to you will be greater on a motorcycle than it is when you are in a car to car crash.

The most minimal protection should always be worn: Helmet, gloves, vest, jeans at least and chaps when it is cooler, plus boots made specifically for operating or riding on a motorcycle. These few items can be the difference between life and death in the most extreme cases, and having a lot of scarring from road rash to saving your skin, literally.

Those who wear the least amount of protection - like wearing shorts - are the ones who are afflicted with the It Won't Happen To Me syndrome.

Much thanks. The other day, I saw at least 2 riders wearing shorts and no protection at all. Me and my ride were both like 'That just doesn't seem like a good idea'

To answer the question and elaborate some on it, it's just plain dumb. I don't give a rats behind if it's 100 degrees out I am wearing my leather bike pants, full sleeve leather bike jacket, helmet and bike gloves. It's not, for me, only about getting into an accident. The bike could kick out from under me and if I was wearing shorts, my legs and arms would look like road kill. Gravel on the road also can send small pieces that could lodge in bare legs. Then we get to the cagers who throw crap out their windows fully knowing you're riding behind them.

Some cagers think it's very funny to watch you swerve trying to avoid what they have thrown. Any added protection against cagers is going to make a huge difference when they hit you or just try to put you down for the fun of it.
