Muslims can now use toilet paper: Turkey’s top religious authority

8 April
Turkey’s top religious authority has decreed that Muslims may use toilet paper – though water is still preferable for cleansing.

“If water cannot be found for cleansing, other cleaning materials can be used. Even though some sources deem paper to be unsuitable as a cleaning material, as it is an apparatus for writing, there is no problem in using toilet paper,” the Directorate of Religious Affairs, or Diyanet, said in a statement about the fatwa.

Islamic toilet etiquette, called the Qadaa al-Haajah, contains rules that predate the invention of toilet paper.

According to the strict code, Muslims must squat or sit – but not stand – while relieving themselves. They also must remain silent while on the toilet and leave with the right foot while saying a prayer.

It IS fun and funny to look at others' religious beliefs and realize how far removed from reality they are.

"...Ignoring the mountain of evidence, some maintain that the Church considers the use of contraception a matter for each married couple to decide according to their "individual conscience." Yet, nothing could be further from the truth. The Church has always maintained the historic Christian teaching that deliberate acts of contraception are always gravely sinful..."

Imagine enforcing such a stance on an over-populated planet, and often in places where there's not enough food/money to care for the ones already alive!!!

lol....just googled toilet paper.....it was commercially available in 1883...............so i guess it fitting to welcome them to the 19th century

Well if I ever visit Turkey now I feel a little more comfortable shaking hands with someone now that I know they can use toilet paper.

Did I read the silly claim once again that the world is over populated?

"The entire world population could fit in the state of Texas and it’d only have the population density of New York City!

People freak out all the time about how we’re overpopulating Earth and we’re all going to die, because we can’t sustain ourselves. There isn’t enough land to produce enough food to sustain us, let alone have any space to move around at all. There are 6.8 billion people on Earth. Calculations show that if we wanted to make everyone in Earth live on a space that had the same population density as New York City, we could fit everyone in about 666,265 square kilometers, which is less than the size of Texas!

So, every man, woman, and child could fit pretty comfortably within the perimeter of the state of Texas. Not only does that leave the other 49 United States open, but it leaves all the other countries clear and open, too. So, it is pretty safe to say that we have enough space, the entire world except Texas, to farm and ranch for our food supply.

Would water be a problem, though? It's calculated that we need 350 billion liters of water per day to properly hydrate 6.8 billion people. It seems like a lot, but the Columbia River alone could produce that amount in less than a day. By the way, the Columbia River is the U.S.’s fourth largest river. So, again, that leaves the rest of the world’s water supply open and ready to serve. So, we’re not really overpopulated. We just need to be better at managing our resources.

Yes, indeed the moon IS made of cheese...it says so, on the interwebz.

"...If you opened up your refrigerator at home, and saw something greenish white, with little holes in it, you would assume it was cheese. Any rational person would do the same. Why then, should the case of an object in the sky be any different? Logically, we should assume the same thing – the Moon is white, the Moon has holes, and therefore it is cheese. But don’t take my word for it — I have statistical facts to back up that statement...

And, he goes on to provide the statistical facts and other *facts* TO prove it.

At some point, EACH of us IS responsible for effectively applying common sense to *facts*, before adopting them as our opinion, which is *right*.
