If you're into gardening and wanting to improve your gardening, composting is one way to do so...
 
I never did a compost pile
You should try sometime; most things that come to mind - grass clippings. dry leaves, sawdust, most food scraps - can be thrown into a pile. Turn and keep moist and in months, a compost heap!

Then you put it in the dirt to help your plants?

You keep it stirred and moist and then, as it becomes compost, you add it as a soil amendment to plants, flowers, vegetables, etc.

Nice, and soon my whole backyard will be filled with garbage! At least the plants will be pretty :P jk
