Have you ever considered helping others as a hobby?

They say in order to help yourself, you should do something to help others.

Yes, I do but I wouldn't call it a hobby. I drive cancer patients to their Chemo treatments and wait with them to drive them back home. I also spend time visiting the seniors at our local nursing home.

I don't volunteer as a hobby as it just doesn't motivate me. Fair play to people who do volunteer though.

I did in high school. I volunteered at a retirement home. It started off as a school project. I only had to do it for 3 weeks.. When the 3 weeks was up, I just kept going... for another year or two. Nice people there.

It was sad when they would die though.

My mum volunteers from a breast reconstruction charity.

I don't have time to volunteer for things though.

As times are tough right now trying to find a job, I've thought about going to volunteer with the RNZSPCA (Royal New Zealand Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). That'll give me work and life experience which will help later on, and it'll be awesome working with animals.

At our old church, I used to volunteer as a greeter, basically someone who holds the door open for people and greets them. Hence the name greeter.

However, that wasn't our only job. We also handed out bulletins and took up offerings and counted/sorted the money accordingly. Then, after the service, we would stack chairs and clean up the place for next Sunday. It wasn't easy work, but it felt great and rewarding knowing you're serving a good purpose.

At school, I aid for a teacher, which I would say is volunteering. I help grade papers, and do whatever else he wants me to do. Aside from being his aid, I also help some of the students in there understand the lesson, because I have that teacher as well the next class.

I just did my first hour and a half at the SPCA this morning. Not as fun as I had hoped for. The cats are feisty, so feisty that you can't even touch them. And cleaning out their pens is just foul and hard work... maybe it's because I'm not a cat fanatic.

Hopefully, next time I'll be shown how to take care of the dogs. They should be a lot more fun. I'm sure I'd be able to at least pat the dogs, unlike the cats.

I love helping out others by volunteering and supporting them. If you are a staff member on any site, I consider it volunteering as a hobby.

I voulanteer at a rescue kennels when I can. I help out socialising them, help out with there assesments and generally advertise for them. Its a great way to help all the cats and dogs all find wounderful new homes. Knowing you're helping abandoned animals gives you such a great feeling.

I hadn't really done any physical work besides being a teacher's assistant and doing a half a year long library intern, but I usually help people on the creative side. I do art request as often as I can so that I could help people with their views and portraying pictures that they couldn't do on paper. I can also do pixel work and concept artwork for creature concepts to help people with their video game projects, since I know how it is being very eager to create your game but not being able to fill all the spots you need to make one! (Like I'm a concept artist and can do all the graphics but I'm unable to do scripting, etc) I'm also an artist on a couple of pet sites that work on items for free, though I'm a little slow in quantity since I take a lot of time on each image.

I wanted to go on a sort-of holiday that involves building an orphanage in a poor country but sadly you have to be 21 years old to go outside of Europe with this organisation.

I've been having a very similar issue due to age. Everything I hope to volunteer for require you to be at least eighteen years old *Only one year away now, just turned seventeen today, haha* so it's absolutely mind boggling to wait! The one thing I'm happy about is that I am able to tutor kids in elementary schools, so I'm hoping to start that as soon as possible.

Oh, I forgot to mention! I also volunteer to do lunch duty everyday and clean teacher's desks after class since they get very dirty and no one cleans them [sub](The kids who come to class late are suppose to clean them but they never show up)[/sub]

Been there, did that, and that, and the other, and that other thing we used to do, something almost every month...

until we got Charity Fatigue and cut back to one major event in the spring and another in the fall.

At the last one, we helped Them do This....

What a wonderful charity event Doc! I enjoyed the write up until I read Toys R Us will no longer allow this in front of any of their stores. For crap sake, this event is to give unfortunate children some happiness in receiving toys for X-mas. I know if I lived in that area I would never shop at that Toys R Us store.

Yeah I volunteer all that time, right now I am volunteering for the Alzheimer Society, but before that it was for the Cancer Society, for the homeless shelter and their store, I'm going to be volunteering to raise money for the fire department and for the hospital soon. I love giving out it makes me feel like I accomplish something and when I make someone else's life better it makes me feel like I'm doing something right and it makes me feel happy that someone else is happy.
