We had to go to town today, so we stopped at the courthouse and went in and voted.

I held my nose, and closed my eyes, and crossed myself (even though I am not Catholic, but, you know, it couldn't hurt), and against my own better judgement and survival level instincts, voted for one of the quivering slimewads at the top of the ticket.

But then as I went down the screen, I noticed something. I hadn't heard of about 3/4 of the races. County this, state that, some ballot measure about doing something.... Not a peep.

Yes, I'd heard about Don and the Dame, and there's been some local smearing going on about the US House seat between a total loser and a wanna-be loser, but that's it. The vast majority of the down ballot nonsense I couldn't even find out about when we got home and I went looking for it. A few names, some yayhoo was running to unseat a sitting judge, but there simply isn't anything out about most of them

What's your ticket look like?

Hoping to find out a little more about the "little" issues & best liars looking to get on the public payroll in the voters' pamphlet here. We have no choice here but to vote-by-mail; or put the ballot in a drop-box 'somewheres' .
So, yes, there's been pretty good publicizing about the 'race' for Governor, too.

Fires set in drop boxes destroy hundreds of ballots in Washington and damage 3 in Oregon

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Incendiary devices were set off Monday at two ballot drop boxes — one in Portland and another in nearby Vancouver, Washington — destroying hundreds of ballots in what one official called a “direct attack on democracy” about a week before a heated Election Day.

The early morning fire at the drop box in Portland was extinguished quickly thanks to a suppression system inside the box as well as a nearby security guard, police said, and just three ballots were damaged there.

But within a few hours, another fire was discovered at a transit center drop box across the Columbia River in Vancouver. Vancouver is the biggest city in Washington’s 3rd Congressional District, the site of what is expected to be one of the closest U.S. House races in the country, between first-term Democratic Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez and Republican challenger Joe Kent.

The ballot box in Vancouver also had a fire suppression system inside, but that failed to prevent hundreds of ballots from burning, said Greg Kimsey, the longtime elected auditor in Clark County, Washington, which includes Vancouver. He urged voters who dropped their ballots in the transit center box after 11 a.m. Saturday to contact his office for a replacement ballot.

Okay, the ballot's in the mail. Good thing it's postage-free. No way can I feel satisfied for the effort, any which way I go, we're doomed.

I had much the same experience, Dr. Leftover.
It was one of the first times I actually wondered if a mail-in ballot would have been better, as I could have researched more of the lesser talked about options.

Mail-in has it's goods & bads. Just for ol' times' sake I sort of miss going to the local school house, chatting with some of the volunteer poll workers; even if the weather in November can be sloppy. :)

Mailed in. Ballot received and accepted. Thankful for the tracking app.

How long has Oregon had vote-by-mail and how well does it work, if I may ask?

I'm not sure. Probably a decade or so before I came to the state. It's always been an option when I turned voting age, so it's been nice. On top of the ballot boxes, regular mail, polling places, etc, it just makes voting that much easier to access. Only in the last election cycle and this one has voting in general become hostile. I'm sure you read that one or two ballot boxes were targeted and destroyed recently with some sort of incendiary weapon. Other than that, it's been smooth sailing otherwise.
