When you're interested in dating a guy or a girl, how do you go about letting them know? Do you simply walk up to them and ask them out? Do you have a friend let them know you're interested?

I just flirt with her a bit and if it clicks I ask her out. I wouldn't ever ask a friend to do it for me and wingmen don't work all that well either in my experience...

There's this State Trooper who I met several times while responding to accident calls. I knew right away after talking with him that I would love to go out with him. I kept waiting for him to ask me but a friend of his told me he was a shy guy. I saw him last night and simply walked over to him and asked him out. I figured I had nothing to lose. He could have either said yes or no. He gave me a big smile and said: I would love to go out with you. I was just afraid to ask you. We are going out this coming Saturday night. I'm so glad I had the nerve to ask him!

Edit - Change of plans. I just talked with him on the phone. I asked him instead of going out, if he would like to come over to my house and we could BBQ. No sense spending money for food and gas to go somewhere when he only lives a few miles from me. Plus I want to be able to talk to him without all the distractions of being in a noisy crowded pub. He loved the idea and he's bringing the steaks!

Yee-haw! Go Jazzy!

Congrats on the new friend / possibly new BF.

Glad you are dating someone who lives in your area and not on the other side of the country.

Go Jazzy! I've been going on dates with this one girl since the beginning of summer and I plan on asking her out, as in boyfriend/girlfriend, on our next date! Ironically her dad is a state trooper! I plan on asking her out through an *inside conversation* I had with her and my friend. Basically, my friend made fun of me in front of her because I didn't have a girlfriend and he did, but I'm not going to go into much detail because it's irrelevant. Anyhow, I plan on taking her out to eat and then going to get ice cream, and sometime during our date I plan on referencing the conversation we had with my friend, who made fun of me for not having a girlfriend, and I'm basically going to ask her if she'll change that!

Nice one Jazzy and MrJ thats a bit cheeky but if it works it works just don't be too forward about it.

She may cut and run otherwise and I don't date anymore, I already have a girlfriend and instead of boring you all with a list of tips.

I will just give you one piece of advice that is...be honest with yourself and treat him or her how you want to be treated.

Good luck.

Aww, that's sweet and good luck!

Thanks! It'll be a few days before I ask her out though, because she just had her wisdom teeth taken out, so she can't eat or anything for a couple more days, and plus, I'll be out of town this weekend. However, as soon as I get back and she's feeling better I'm ready to ask her out! I changed my mind though, I'm just going to be straight forward with her and tell her that I really like her and that I want to know if she'll be my girlfriend.

I admire you and straight forward (IMO) is definately the right way to do this! PLEASE let us know what happens!

Tbh for me the difficult part is actually finding someone worthwhile, not what comes after that. =/

so what is the update?

@seasidemike: The update is that we've been dating ever since. This one is definately a keeper and he lives not far from me. Nice to finally date a guy that has the same area code as I do!
