Wedding Gift

I give a fancy picture frame and insert a $100 dollar bill inside the frame.

If there isn't a wedding registry, I've either given something unique (as in like a unique experience), like a fancy reservation somewhere (restaurant; his/her spa treatment, etc.), or something that the newlyweds can use together, likely in a permanent home - I've given dish sets (beyond the basic settings everyone has - something specialised like a tea set or something like that). A nice kitchen knife for couples that enjoy cooking, or good food is nice (and makes for some interesting jokes). Handcraft (or even commercial) candles are another decent standard as well, and I've done handcraft pottery, too. Something a little more daring, but interesting, and certainly truly unique is giving them something they can learn together - like if you got a complete Rosetta Stone set for them, so they could both learn a language, that would be appreciated by some couples.

...and of course there's always cold, hard, cash that is typically welcome, too.

A fancy picture frame and $100? How much did the picture frame cost?

Seems like a pretty expensive gift.

Picture frame cost $20.00. Considering that I am eating for free, drinking for free and dancing for free, $120 is a cheap night out.

I've never been to a wedding when i was old enough to know,so i wouldn't know what to get, however, i went to one when i was around 5 but thats it.

I was going to say you as a guest... but EE sort of stole my thunder

Actually not a wedding gift per se, but one of my most successful gifts was a characture of the recipient. It was done by a cartoonist from a photo. Not very expensive and something that is highly personal.
