ENFIELD, Conn. (AP) — A police chief in Connecticut says a girl handed out marijuana-laced lollipops to classmates at her high school, and one student was hospitalized.

Enfield Police Chief Carl Sferrazza tells the Journal Inquirer (http://bit.ly/1v89Fo9 ) that the Enfield High student acknowledged sharing the tainted lollipops, which were laced with THC, an active ingredient in marijuana. She said she received the candy in the mail from California.

The police chief says a 16-year-old girl was hospitalized overnight Monday after consuming one of the lollipops. But he says the student who brought the tainted lollipops to school denied giving any to her.

Because the student is being charged is a juvenile, she will not be arrested. Sferrazza says she'll instead be referred to juvenile court.

hospitalized? For what? Being sleepy?

Anyway... this was NOT in Colorado or Washington folks it was Connecticut. :P

Still, that stuff doesn't belong at a learning institution. School is only 6 hours a day for most kids, why do they have to squander it when there's so much free time in between to be stupid?

From another article:
After her daughter had the pop she called her mother to say she wasn't feeling well. The alcohol and drug addiction counselor rushed to the school and when Reyes-Portis got to her daughter, "she was all covered in red blotches and sweating."

She said she was having a reaction from the pops and was also experiencing heart palpitations.

The school superintendent said the nurse thought the teenager was having an allergic reaction and an ambulance was called.

I think a bit more needs to be added to this story, how would an underage person be getting medical cannabis products mailed to her?

Can we quit pretending that 'medical marijuana' is solely about compassion for the sick?

It is partly about compassion for the sick, but not 100%. Any "regular" person can go into one of those doctors offices and claim to have trouble sleeping or back problems (for example), so yeah there is abuse of the system. I don't see how that statement applies to this news article though? Because the marijuana was in candy form? ...not everyone can smoke marijuana and that's why there is ways to ingest it. :dontknow:
