to have a look around- is their a lot to see?

as in, do guests have to register to brouze, can they post as a guest, etc

on my forum we do allow guest posting in some areas, but we do have a member area they can't access

we don't allow them to post in the chat (shoutbox), but most of the forum is at least visible so guests know what they are signing up for

I think if you preserve some exclusivity and offer a reason to sign up then you’ll easily turn guests into members :)

I don't allow guests to make any posts, but they are able to read all areas of the forum to see what they're potentially signing up for.

We don't allow guest posting. They'll need to take 5 second out of their day so they can register an account.

Guests can view almost all of the forums. There is a couple that can't been seen until they login, Member Interviews and Member Journals for example.

I don't allow guests to post, but they can view like 90% of the forum other then a few small areas.

I don't allow guests to post in any of the forums, and I only have two main forums restricted from guest access, the resource forums. I have those restricted from guest viewing to help entice guests to register to access the resources and if they register, I can better identify who a user is if they choose to rip resources off of the forums.

Guests can view most things..but no guest posting. That's asking for trouble

That's asking for trouble

I remember on an old old forum from way back in the day I had a shoutbox on the forum that guests could post in. They would write the most obscene horrible stuff on there. I finally had to delete it (it was 3rd party shoutbox that wasn't connected to the forum so it was open to everyone).

I really believe that creating a reason for a member to join is paramount. Give them a reason to want to join in on the conversation.

Does that happen a lot?
I haven't noticed it happen so far on my forum in paticular, but the internet is too large to tell if it has or has not most certainly happened.
