FLEMINGTON -- The sign in the deli window says, "CELEBRATE YOUR WHITE HERITAGE IN MARCH, WHITE HISTORY MONTH."

Jim Boggess, proprietor of Jimbo's Deli on Main at 22 Main St., says, "No matter what you are -- Muslim, Jewish, black, white, gay, straight -- you should be proud of what you are. I shouldn't have to feel bad about being white."

But a neighbor and former customer, Bhakti Curtis, who is bi-racial, doesn't accept that. He said the sign, is "mocking Black History Month," especially the way the T was crossed in "WHITE." The cross piece was not right at the top, it was lower down, in a style used by the Ku Klux Klan and other white-power groups, Curtis said. That cross piece of the T has since been broadened to make it a more traditional, if top-heavy, capital T.

On March 3, Curtis saw the sign, told Boggess it offended him, but got no satisfaction. So he filed a complaint with the Flemington police. Detective Sgt. William Svard said Cpl. Louis Hribik's report indicates that Curtis said the sign is "racist," that he felt harassed by it and wanted to know what would be done about it.

Hribik went to Jimbo's, looked at the sign, spoke with Boggess and decided that the sign wasn't derogatory or racist and that no further police action was needed.

Boggess agrees with that assessment and believes he's lawfully exercising his right of free expression. He keeps a copy of the Bill of Rights in his establishment for ready reference.

He said reaction to the sign has been mixed. Lots of people have been photographing his sign with their phones and giving him a thumbs-up. But others have objected, including someone from the Business Improvement District who asked him to take it down, he said. Sometimes the comments are as good as the story.

The left will destroy this guy to let the rest of us know "Where our Place is."

Don´t want any "Uppity White Folks" standing up for themselves.

so if you have a 'black history month' why isnt that considered racist?

Because if you didn't, black history would be ignored and there'd be 12 white history months rather than the default 11.

As I read the article about the white history month thing, all I can think - in regards to Mr. Boggess - of is Voltaire's famous quote,
I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

I agree with it in the sense that all these different kinds of race based celebrations just separate us further as a society. It's why every single time I fill out paper work for whatever it might be when they ask my race I either put American or Floridian depending on my mood. I will not be a part of this obsession by the left to categorize and put every person in this racial group so they can use them for political gain.
------------------------------------------------------------------
I mean they are so obsessed with separating and categorizing us the government threatened American's if they did not fill out the entire cenus form last time. I took them up on that threat and put in my name my wife's name and filled in American and left the rest of the many questions blank that has no business being asked.

How about a bring American's together month and have everyone together share in the cultures of there ancestors and the country's they came from.

The reason why there is a black history month is because their humanity, their intelligence, their right to live as human beings on this planet with a job, an education, a safe home to live in, was taken away from them for unjust and disgusting reasons.  And it is--to this day--still being practice in many parts of the world by the very people who put that injustice upon them.  Yes, the idea that celebrating one race over the other CAN, in fact, separate us.  But many people seem to forget that plenty of white people were the ones who dehumanized and treated black people even lower than dogs, lower than the scum of the Earth in the first place.  So gee, I wonder where all this stems from... *strokes chin thoughtfully*

And don't tell me it's unfair or that it's ridiculous. You can say that when racism doesn't exist anymore, and when black people are not targeted and treated badly for their skin color by any people (cops, housing authorities, educational facilities, etc). Also, I understand this is just one race I'm talking about here, but this goes for the many other races constantly facing racism and prejudice just because they don't share the same skin-tone, who practice different traditions and live in a different culture.

First how quickly people forget history. Blacks were enslaving blacks and ripping them from there homes to sell them off. Free Blacks in America around the time of the civil war were huge slave holders just like the whites. And to this day many groups are being treated horribly around the world. This was far, far just a white thing that happened.

So what you are saying is even though none of these generations lived through slavery and the overwhelming amount of white American's go out of there way in a ridiculous way to show they are not racist and show no ill will towards blacks, that a large portion of the black community wants to poke the tiger at a group of people who had nothing to do with any kind of slavery. And we wonder why race tensions in America are horrible at this moment besides the dear leader helping that along quite nicely.

And it is not just the blacks who suffered horribly from the slave trade or defacto slavery. But yet we don't have a Chinese month, a Irish month, or a Japanese month when we put them interment camps for WW2. At least there are generations still alive that can remember that one.

We've all been taught the horror's of the African slave trade. It's in all the school books and in plenty of Hollywood movies.
But for some reason the largest group of slaves in the British Colonies in the 17th Century doesn't get mentioned at all: the Irish.

Most people have heard of the Great Famine, which reduced the population of Ireland by around 25%.
That pales in comparison to the disaster that England inflicted upon Ireland between 1641 and 1652, when the population of Ireland fell from 1,466,000 to 616,000.
  Then things got worse.

What to do with the Irish?
From the Tudor reconquest of Ireland until Irish Independence in 1921, the English puzzled over the problem of what to do with all those Irish people.
They were the wrong religion. They spoke the wrong language. But the big problem was that there were just too many of them.
The English had been practicing a slow genocide against the Irish since Queen Elizabeth, but the Irish bred too fast and were tough to kill. On the other side of the Atlantic, there was a chronic labor shortage (because the local natives tended to die out too quickly in slavery conditions).
Putting two and two together, King James I started sending Irish slaves to the new world.
The first recorded sale of Irish slaves was to a settlement in the Amazon in 1612, seven years before the first African slaves arrived in Jamestown.
The Proclamation of 1625 by James II made it official policy that all Irish political prisoners be transported to the West Indies and sold to English planters. Soon Irish slaves were the majority of slaves in the English colonies.

In 1629 a large group of Irish men and women were sent to Guiana, and by 1632, Irish were the main slaves sold to Antigua and Montserrat in the West Indies. By 1637 a census showed that 69% of the total population of Montserrat were Irish slaves, which records show was a cause of concern to the English planters. But there were not enough political prisoners to supply the demand, so every petty infraction carried a sentence of transporting, and slaver gangs combed the country sides to kidnap enough people to fill out their quotas.

And don't tell me it's unfair or that it's ridiculous. Well it is ridiculous because this racism and targeting you talk about is rare in America and the tensions in America are rising because people are sick and tired of being called racist for every action they take that is not about racism but made to look that way. People are not supposed to put the facts out there like blacks being 13 percent of the population but commit 50 percent of the crimes. So automatically when cops target the areas where most of the crimes happen it must be racist when it is a black community.

Now if certain people who heard this story that happened to me last week and said it was between a black guy and a white guy but did not hear the entire story would conclude racism. So last Wednesday I am coming out of Home Depot. I get to my van and start loading what I bought into that van. I hear someone say excuse me. I give a quick glance up and see who it is approaching me. I immediately turn my face into I am not friendly move on and I am now pretending I am not paying attention to you attitude. First assumption from so many people would be damn, he must be a racist! Now what the story does not tell you is two things. First these Home Depots and Lowes are full of people begging for money of many races and eventually you get sick and tired of being prayed upon for being good hearted. Second, us working guys who work on homes by the end of a day can look not much better then what I thought was a black homeless man coming up to me. But instead what turned out to be a guy with a successful business just like me interested in my new van and wanted to ask some questions about it. Which immediately reversed my get away from me aura into a 10 minute conversation with a really nice guy. You see I think this story can be translated into many stories across America where to many are screaming racism and not looking deeper into the story.

Is there a percentage of racism out there? Yes and always will be for whites, blacks, Spanish or whatever race or culture you can think of. Is it even 5 percent of America for all sides? I think not. But they are out there no doubt. Have gotten a taste of it from whites and the Spanish being with my Latin wife. Have gotten the dirty looks and slow service on occasion. Probably the worst was in a Columbian restaurant when I thought it would end up in a fist fight and his friends held him down and they moved to another table. I did not ease the situation in this case either by staring him right back down also and giving him winks and air kisses either because he was annoying me.

Some interesting facts to show we are all more alike then some would like us to believe in todays world.

I find two things quite fascinating about these results. First of all, simply glancing at these statistics reveals that virtually none of the African Americans tested by these DNA companies is inferred to be 100 percent sub-Saharan African, although each company has analyzed Africans and African immigrants who did test 100 percent sub-Saharan in origin. Ranges, of course, vary from individual to individual. Spencer Wells, director of National Geographic's Genographic Project, explained to me that the African Americans they've tested range from 53 percent to 95 percent sub-Saharan African, 3 percent to 46 percent European and zero percent to 3 percent Native American. So there is a lot of genetic variation within our ethnic group, as is obvious to anyone even casually glancing at black people just walking down the street.

What this means is that even the most phenotypically "African" (or what used to be called "Negroid") African Americans have dramatically significant levels of European ancestry, a fact that would have astonished many of our forebears, both black and white. It is also a fact that astonishes the guests on Finding Your Roots. And this finding is important because it deconstructs the very American notion of biologically "fixed races" that our society inherited from the racist pseudoscience of the 18th century and drew upon to justify slavery and the property rights of masters who fathered children with their slaves.
http://www.theroot.com/articles/history/2013/02/how_mixed_are_african_americans.3.html

And how many of these 10.7 million Africans were shipped directly to North America? Only about 388,000. That's right: a tiny percentage.

In fact, the overwhelming percentage of the African slaves were shipped directly to the Caribbean and South America; Brazil received 4.86 million Africans alone! Some scholars estimate that another 60,000 to 70,000 Africans ended up in the United States after touching down in the Caribbean first, so that would bring the total to approximately 450,000 Africans who arrived in the United States over the course of the slave trade.
SEE ALSO

Incredibly, most of the 42 million members of the African-American community descend from this tiny group of less than half a million Africans. And I, for one, find this amazing.
http://www.theroot.com/articles/history/2012/10/how_many_slaves_came_to_america_fact_vs_fiction.html

The nonsense you just spouted is too little too weak for me to address, so I'm not going to. However, I will say that the number of blacks enslaved in America is so incredibly higher a number than the measly 388,000 figure you pulled out your ass and manipulated to make it look like the number of slaves in THIS country was, in fact, very small (I get that a small percentage were "taken", which, honestly, shouldn't have happened in the first place. It still happened, regardless of the number of human beings enslaved as prisoners. But a lot more, by far, suffered for hundreds of years). Head back to elementary school and fill in the blanks. Better yet, find someone so non-biased toward the subject who can teach you from home since you seem to be an advocate for that stuff.

Wasn't pulled out of my ass it is fact as the author shows in historical papers. Most of the people who became slaves were born and raised in America and not brought here. Not trying to make a point just thought it was a interesting fact.

What does the fact have to do with the other fact that millions and millions of people were still enslaved in this country?  You're pulling irrelevant facts out of your ass that don't matter.  Regardless of where black slaves came from, the history you so desperately rely on is concrete.  People were taken into slavery, stripped of their human rights, of the privileges other people got over them and it is still happening today regardless of the fact that it is now illegal.

Just the other day I heard about a story in a southern state about a predominantly white private school that accepted a young black girl to their student body, and when the parents showed up, they were told horribly racist and prejudice things that essentially forced the parents to pull their daughter from the school to prevent her (and themselves) from experiencing the racism that goes on in this country.

In Oklahoma, a video was filmed on a university's fraternity bus ride where students were chanting:

“There will never be a n***er SAE.
There will never be a n***er SAE.
You can hang ‘em from a tree,
But they’ll never [inaudible] with me.
There will never be a n***er SAE.”

These are just two examples of the racism that exists in this country, but I could go on and on pulling institutionalized and socially acceptable examples of racism if you really want me to.

Probably does not have anything to do with the discussion just something interesting I ran into while researching. And Except for the fact so many believe North America took millions of Blacks again kidnapped by other Blacks and shipped them across the ocean. I just figure if history is going to be remembered at least do it accurately and that does matter so much.

Not sure what you mean by the history I so desperately rely on?

Of course they were and still are today in areas like the middle east against women. But that is not here and racism by far is the rarity instead of common place.

I am sure you could find more examples. There always will be a small percentage of it from Whites, Spanish and yes even some in the Black community who hate Whites and the Spanish. And things like Black history week do nothing to help bring Americans together as one people. It is a example of that multiculturalism not working out so well.

But lets show some examples of some reverse racism.

BLACK RACISM UNCHAINED

Rev.-Jesse-Lee-Peterson_avatar.jpg

http://www.wnd.com/author/jlpeterson/JESSE LEE PETERSON

White Americans are under assault, and with the re-election of President Barack Obama, black racism is on the rise!

There’s no better example of black racism than when actor Jamie Foxx hosted “Saturday Night Live” and joked about his new film, “Django Unchained”: “I get free. I save my wife and I kill all the white people in the movie. How great is that?” He went on to say, “My president, President Obama, is back up in the White House for four more years. How black is that?”

How dumb is that? Just imagine if a white actor joked about how much he enjoyed shooting black people. And what if that same actor gloated about how great it is to have a white president like George W. Bush back in the White House? The NAACP, the godless Congressional Black Caucus, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and the rest of the liberals would be marching in the streets.
Foxx was already in hot water for remarks he made weeks prior when he called Obama “our lord and savior.” I wrote about it here at WND and repudiated Foxx on my radio show, but the silence from black “leaders” was deafening.
When Foxx was questioned about his racist remarks he didn’t admit he was wrong; instead he doubled down and blamed it on whites! In an interview with Vibe Magazine, Foxx said:
“Every single thing in my life is built around race. ‘Cause as black folks we’re always sensitive. As a black person it’s always racial.”
Foxx went on to say how he has to act different among white folks:
“But the minute I leave my house, I gotta put my other jacket on and say, ‘Hey, Thomas, Julian and Greg.’ And I gotta be a certain person. But when I get home my other homies are like, How was your day? Well, I only had to be white for at least eight hours today, [or] I only had to be white for four hours.”
Foxx’s remarks may be surprising and even shocking to white Americans, but his sentiments are exactly the way most blacks see life. In their anger, most black Americans see everything through the prism of race. They see all whites as being racists. And in their state of resentment they’re extremely sensitive to any slights (perceived or real). It’s not the skin color, but rather the spirit of anger that has polluted the hearts and minds of blacks.

The way I see it, many white people deserve to be hated, but that's just me. I know you disagree.

Not necessarily. Just may disagree with what you call many. My feeling is with the discussions we have had you seem to angry with most white people. Could be wrong but that is the way it feels.

I'm angry with all people regardless of their skin color. Humans are ignorant and selfish, vain and egotistical, unable and unwilling to even consider anything different from their own heavily biased point of view.  In the end, we'll all end up with the same fate, so it seems ridiculous to me all of this hate and contention coming from all sides.  It's sickening to be honest and we're all at fault.
