Why Brits And Americans Spell Differently
Why did Americans drop the "u" from British words like "humour" and "behaviour"? What about "theater" vs. "theatre?" Siobhan Thompson explains the spelling divide between our nations.

I don't see why the spellings we American's use are "wrong" according to the UK spelling. Technically, they aren't "wrong" according to American English language, so the argument that us 'yanks' are idiots for not being able to spell properly is without merit as we no longer are a part of the British Empire. Then again, we do get a little haughty about things we think are right, so it's not just those who use British English who ride in on their high horse.
 
I always wondered why the words were spelled differentially...now we know. :cool:
